Default Charlotte,NC-Relocating

Hello All. I am currently living in Upstate NY and will be moving to the Mooresville/Concord area May 1st. I am yet to discover the area and was wondering any positives or negatives of living there and anything else that comes to mind. Thank you all, I appreciate it.

Where about are you coming from in NY.

You will love the area I have traveled and lived in several cities in the US and I chose Charlotte to make my home. I'm also from Upsate NY on Lake George.

Welcome to the area

Incarcerated in several cities is not the same as living there

Welcome to the area
The rest of us in the RCG are fairly sane, look us up when you get here

I'm from the Oneida area(30 minutes east of Syracuse). Actually to make a long story short, I grew up in Upstate NY, then went to Texas for school, then landed a job on Long Island. And now after living here for almost 3 years, I'm ready to get out!!!!!

I won't be commuting to Charlotte. My job location is in between Concord and Mooresville. I would like a 20 minute commute and have no idea what the traffic is like. Thanks.

The RCG folks should be able to give you a good idea of what traffic is like in the communities north of the city. I live on the south side of Charlotte almost next to South Carolina & I'm not very familiar with the ebb & flow up there. If you're going to be here April 9th & 10th maybe you can go to the AutoFair at Lowes Motor Speedway & meet up with the RCG folks.

matey19: Sending you a PM!

There are a lot of GREAT Corvette clubs in Charlotte. You won't have a hard time meeting folks and getting acclimated to the area! You have an open invitation to visit with the Race City Corvettes (aka: Race City Gang or RCG). A lot of us live in the area that you are talking about.

Here's an early WELCOME to Charlotte!!!!!

Default I guess I can say I started in NY too

Hey, you probably know my home city of Rochester, and after the Army I spent time going to school in Syracuse at OCC and SU. Spent every summer as a kid in Shelter Island (eastern Long Island) and still have cousins in Bayshore, Sayville, W. Islip.

I just met these guys in Race City Corvettes after 1 year in solitary confinement. (I moved here from NJ last April) Suddenly, things are starting to brighten up, frequent autocross events, auto fairs, and potential hi-speed events to go to. Sure beats the boring home-work-sleep routine!! Anyway, stay alive on this forum and you will know what is going on.

I live in the University area and since you don't really need to be in the Charlotte area it might be smart to look in Concord. The only reason I say this is...if you think Sunrise Highway/Southern State & 495 get bad...you haven't been to Charlotte during rush hour. They have a population boom and decided to rebuild ALL the roads at once.

Look forward to meeting you sometime.

Charlotte traffic is brutal at rush hour. I was up in Spencer today on a cruise & Rt. 85 S was pretty brutal till I hit 485. Alchemist & LakotasRose live up in Mooresville. They could probably give you a lot of good tips & help y'all to settle in.

Hi'ya Matey! I've lived in Race City U.S.A. (aka: Mooresville) for...damn...almost 30 years. You're gonna have an EASY commute! No major traffic problem areas b/n here and Concord 'cause everyone's headin' to Charlotte.

It's a GREAT area to settle in. You can find quiet neighborhoods, party-central apartments, and anything inbetween.

M'ville City schools are ranked in the top 5 systems in the state, lots of convenient shopping and resturaunts, MUCH lower property taxes in Iredell county than in Cabarrus county (Concord), and a HELLOFALOT lower than Mecklenburg County (Charlotte)!

Keep us posted 'bout when you're gonna be down and i'd be glad to show ya the neighborhood!

You are going to love this area. I. too, spent 10 years of my life in the Utica/Rome area at Griffiss AFB. You can retire your snow blower and you won't need snow tires either. It does snow maybe once a year maybe a fluke above 6", but everything shuts down when that happens. There is no need to store the Vette down here As far as the RCG goes, I'd have never put this bunch of people together. We have a strange, but cool mix of misfits, except me, I'm the adult supervision. (It's terrible to be an 18 year old stuck in a 60 year old body) Give us a call when you hit the area. Hint: never let one of these guys take a picture of you........

Rick, I know how modest you are and I also know that you are too humble to mention your many accomplishments, so I am going to help you out.

Our own Nitro C5 has had his car featured in a maor magazine:

Get in touch with Mark when you come in town. You should definately come by at the Auto Fair in 2 weeks if you can. I would watch out for the RCG though as they are known to play practical jokes from time. Here is a group shot of the RCG group right before their Goth Tour...

Jim believe it or not and the picture (besides using some white makeup) is not altered at all

I moved from the Smithtown area about 4 years ago. Sold everything, quit our jobs and came down to live with my parents for about 60 days. Traffic isn't bad if you can compare to the LIE. Don't worry about people tailgating down here, we're just drafting . Honestly though, I've never been happier working down here and being embraced by the southern life. Housing is about half the price of what LI offers. Plus we had about an inch of snow this past winter.

Hope to see you at a RCG meeting in the future!!

Traffic is pretty much a non issue between Moorseville and Concord. You should like this area...good place for a "car guy".
