Default NoVA, MD, DC Engine Builders?

Anyone know of a good, local engine builder? Starting my research into a crate engine for early next year. Would like a small block 350 up to 383 to replace the 79 GM Target replamcement engine. Would like something streetable but in the high 300 / low 400 hp range.

My preference is to find someone local who I can work with, etc. Otherwise I will end up buying from Jegs, Summit, etc.

I bought the LM1 long block rated at 290hp from GM. Cost was $1300... Hotrod mag and others have done articles on this long block. Some have pushed it over 400hp++.

LM1 long block would be a good replacement engine. You can swap the cam or change the heads for more power.

From your discription of your current motor. "79 GM Target replamcement engine" sounds like you might have the LM1 already. Why not swap the cam and install a set of vortec heads. over 300hp easy.

Just a suggestion.

Yeah, I think you were telling me about this at the dyno session. Here is my reasoning. 1. I am not experiened with engine work...I can do suspension, brakes, steering, etc but engines is a HUGE blindspot for me. So I would rather let someone who kows pick the correct components which match up well. 2. Don't really have anywhere to pull the engine and do a reuild. 3. Since I know very little about the history of the engine I am fearful of putting a lot of effort into a bad block (cracks, etc). Plus I figure if I go that route, I might as well have te block machined, etc. For all the extra cost and effort I just figure I am better off doing a swap.

If I had someone who was willing to help me out through-out all of the above, I would consider it butfor now, I think it is beyond my abilities as well as time and facilities.

Thanks
Shane
