We're thinking of Florida over Easter 06. I've been doing some looking around on the net, there's so much out there. Here's what we're interested in. Either a 2 bedroom vacation rental (another couple will be joining us) right a nice swimable beach or a hotel/resort. Somewhere safe, not right in the heart of a tourist trap and reasonable to upscale pricing. Our main interest is doing some shelling and lots of snorkeling. I've looked at Sanibel Island, Marathon and Islamorada etc. Being so very far from there, we'd certainly appreciate any info that would help. IE: stay away from....... don't bother with......parking anywhere in the keys is expensive, etc. Thanks in advance for the input.
Try the Lido Beach Resort on Lido Key in Sarasota. The rooms are mainly suites with a tiny kitchen which is great if you are there a few days. It is right on the gulf with it's own private beach.
It has an outside tiki bar by the pool which is great for hanging out. Say HI to Special Ed.
It also provides shuttle service to St. Armands Circle, about 1.5 miles, where there are lots of shops, if you are into that, great restaurants/wine (Hemmingways-sit outside, Lido Grill, Crab and Fin), and Coconuts bar.
Prices are pretty good off season. We go there once or twice a year.
