Anyone in the NOVA area have a recommendation for a place for emissions testing for modded cars? I can't be the only one in the area that has a C5 with long tube headers, high flow cats, etc.

Any help would be appreciated!
By your signature you have a 2004. I think they have gone to just plugging the car computer into the emissions computer and making sure there are no codes.
You may want to drop by an emissions station and just talk to them and see what they suggest.
Laurie - How did the 89 fail? Post your numbers in the C4 tech section and someone there will be able to tell you how to fix.
As long as you have the cats, egr (if equipped), and the A.I.R. System you will pass. They don't care if you have after market headers and/or cats and long as you don't put out more nasty stuff...

I didn't get any numbers AT ALL. The guy said they do the visible smoke test first and if they see smoke, they refuse to put it on the dyno.
Probably gonna give it to Joe and have him deal with it at this point...

Ahh the old visible smoke problem.
Hopefully its just the seals around the valve stems.
Ya might want to do replacement rocker arms at the same time. mmmmm maybe a cam. Maybe new heads - polished and ported
As was said, 1996 and later is just OBD-II plug in now. No codes, no stored stuff like misfires, no need to get it on the dyno. They will still do a visual, though, so you have to have the various emissions components in place.

If you change the oil to synthetic and its fresh, you dont get near as much or any smoke on start up when valve seals are bad. By the way, have you been back to old dominion any more?

According to the seller, it's had a new head gasket, valve job, comp cam roller rockers, and pushrods. So WTF knows what the prob is
I have various mods in mind over time but I gotta pass emissions first and store up some $ for those mods

It probably needs an oil change anyway, but I'm guessing it won't solve this problem. <sigh>
Haven't been to ODS in a while, been too darn busy. How about you?
I'm probably gonna tow it into Koons and have Joe see if he can fix it enough to get it through emissions (I've got 10 days left) and fix the starting issue so that I can be confident taking it out on the road without it dying again. He said he'll give me a list of repairs from 'necessary' to 'luxury' so that I can get started wrenching...
I'm probably gonna keep the car...pending the results. From our conversation, he doesn't think the engine is bad, but we'll see what he says.
I just moved to NOVA, I have a 98 with long tube headers, high flow cats, LS6 intake, polished TB, dual air intake, small cam, all they did was plug in under the dash, I passed right away with no problems, hell I even passed on CA (a buddy just tested the output from the tail pipes) I think you'll have no problems passing in VA
