Hey, we are looking for a web address for our club. Here is a web site where you can try different combinations and it will show what names are available. web address lookup
and if you can't figure it out, here is an example: example
One last thing, we want a forum and a calendar function that will let us share with each other the events that we are registered for. So that way, we can keep track of our competition. Here is an example of a calendar I like. www.charlug.org (look at Events/Meetings under the Main Menu, upper left)
Thanks, D2, for looking into this for us. My only recommendation is: KISS, keep it simple stupid as not all of us are up to speed with these computers.
"I think I understand that we would use .ORG as we are a non profit organization. So, how about CCRT.ORG?
Other possibles:
CarolinaCorvetteRaceTeam.org
Raceteam.org
CCraceteam.org"
Yeah, we can use a .org and we can use a .us which is appropriate for our kinda cars!
another thing to think about, we can make email accounts with our new domain. So we could have Strick@CCRT.org or D2@raceteam.org etc. I am thinking this sounds good...
And I vote for "CCRT.org" as it will be much easier to access and less chance of newbies mispelling
newbies? take it from the guy who can't spell Rikc
well CCRT.org can be it if you like, but raceteam.org is a little more expansion friendly, keep in mind that raceteam.us is primo if this takes off and for sponsors, they will get more incidental exposure from other "race" & "team" & "raceteam" search results.
here's an example... someone googles for raceteam and our site will appear-our potential sponsors get noticed. where some nerd googles CCRT and will find Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport. Besides, acronyms are passé (Canadian for no longer cool)
Just to play devil's advocate -- raceteam.com & raceteam.org both appear to be similar small race clubs/groups. I know when someone tells me a web address, i usually remember the first part, but tend to forget the extension. I think we would have some people looking for us online and getting confused by the content on raceteam.com and raceteam.org.
If we had CCRT.org and someone accidentally tried CCRT.com, they would immediately know that they had the wrong site by the lack of any automotive content.
I vote for CCRT.org or CarolinaCorvetteRaceTeam.com (or org -- .com is the most popular though and most professional appearing).
If I can help with graphics or website stuff let me know:

I will need time to try out different bulletin boards and chat features. I committed to this name about an hour prior to jterp's devil's advocate post. I did this because I saw the .org names we talked about were unavailable and wanted to pick something.
You may still brainstorm the site name, I am sure we can mount whatever you decide on, just let me know.
jterp, I will give you an admin account for this test site, you can do whatever you please. let me know your email address and I will forward you admin details.

Okay, I got a step closer. Finally, I got past the registration,(code thing) but I never got any e-mail confirmation that has additional instructions. Now it won't let me log on. I've re-checked my username and password several times, but no luck. Any ideas?
don't stress to much, that wont be our final board. last night i noticed some problems with it but i didn't have tiome to diagnose it, and tonight i won't be able to get started on it until after 9:30pm. I should have lots of time to play around on it this weekend. sorry bout that. i think the chat works though. i would like to try a couple boards out and chats, calendars then we can settle on something. i can then, with jterp's help "brand" it up with our logo and vette stuff.

Thanks for the hard work on it. Any idea of the cost of running this site? Drop me a PM if you have some ideas on the costs.

You have to wait for the email. If you don't get an email in 24 hrs, reregister under a different user name. It's a security thang, from the email there will be probably a link you need to follow to activate your user ID.
