Roanoke VA vette shops
I'm over in Iraq right now. I have a 1980 Vette that will need some work; paint & mechanical (restoration repairs). I bought it on-line as a project car. It is at my brother's home in Covington.
What shops are recommended by the local Corvette owners that are near the Covington area? I'd like to get something lined up for when I get back.
Thanks!
Karl
Sorry I can't help with your question, but had to comment that I was up in Covington from Richmond last Sept at a wedding. We stayed at a hotel off of exit 10 off 64 and still laugh at seeing an insurance agency right up the road call Hemp Insurance. We even took a picture of it. We joked the whole weekend that they'll insure anything in Covington.

Actually, I dislike Covington. It's a redneck Mayberry. Brothers just happen to live there; I'm from Colorado Springs and I left my cars with family in VA.

...
I have a good friend who's wife is from around there. He is always teasing her with redneck jokes.
Last year we stopped to get gas there (we were caravaning to CI-6) and in the store she had just about convinced him to quit with the joking when I spotted a bright yellow magazine in the news-rack. It was "REDNECK MAGAZINE". - I kid you not. -
But back on topic... I know there are a few good shops in Richmond, but I can't think of any out there. I'll forward this thread to my friend and see if he can think of any.
Oh, since I noticed your new around here, I figured I'd mention what CI-6 was. The yearly Cruise-In for corvetteforum is held in Bowling Green Ky at the National Corvette Museum, which is right acros the street from the plant where corvettes are made.
Fozzy_Bear contyacted me about this thread. My wife is from Salem, and her brother is a car guy and has lived there all his life. I will talk to him and get you some suggestions soon. I know there is a engine guy that is well respected in that area. I was at the weekly cruise in in Salem last Saturday, and folks were talking about him.
There is also a corvette club in Roanoke - "Star City Corvettes":
I have little personal experience with body shops or engine rebuild services. I do know that Cuz's Autobody Repair(540-389-1422) in Salem and Woodings Auto Body Works (540-345-4871) in Roanoke have the best reputations in the valley. They are both very good and extremely expensive. If you want good work both can provide it. The owners are also related. As for engine work I could only recommend Terry Walters Precision Engines(540-774-8605) in Southwest Roanoke County. I do have experience with him. He is the guy I was talking to the Vette owner about down at Fast Freddie's. He is good and expensive. Terry will do what ever you want. Just bring lots of money. I hope this helps.
I don't know what my brother in law considers expensive, as he does most of his own work, so I can see where he would find shop rates excessive, so I would call and find out for yourself.
