Default Ticket over Memorial Day weekend

Quick question for those of you that live in VA. I got a ticket in MD for the stupidest reason, speeding Well, it was stupid because I was barely going over the speed limit and I was just following all the traffic. If you were the unlucky person getting lasered then you got pulled over. They were pulling over every 10th car.

Anyway, my question is, if you get a MD ticket do the points carry over to VA?

Thanks

YES! And if you don't pay it they will send a letter to VA and your license will be suspended until paid. FYI

and Pennsylvania too. Definitely either fight it or go ahead and pay it or they will suspend your license.

It does transfer over, however it might not come over as the same type of ticket.

I had that happen to me from MD with the same situation that you had. I got a speeding ticket in MD and it transferred over to VA as improper driving (less points on the DMV side).

It has happened like that with tickets that I have gotten in other states to VA as well.

I got a sweet 76/60 in Dinwiddie, VA last Sunday en route to Charlotte. Car is registered here, my license is from MA. Local lawyers said the Dinwiddie judge is a stickler so I don't know if I'll fight it or not...

Just stay away from a lawyer named Carl Muzi working in north and central Virginia. He will take your money and run!

I live in Dinwiddie. If you have not had a ticket in a while ask the Commonwealth Attorney if he will let you go to driving school. They will let you attend one in your home state. You will pay the fee for the school but you will get no points on your license.

MASIHMAN,

what was the ticketed speed for? most cops wont write under 5mph over.

also keep in mind most commonwealth attoneys wont get involved in this situation. only care if its a DUI, DWI, reckless type offense.

i recently had a case in Orange Co. Virginia. sheriff officer cited me for passing on an incline which is reckless, cares 6 points for 11 years, not to mention the insurance fiasco. i got a local lawyer to talk to the sheriff, state attorney they agreed base on my record and the fact i showed up dressed apropriately to reduce to a unsafe lane change (3 points, 3 years). cost 106 court fees + 400 lawyer = still less that upped insurance costs for 11 yrs!

The ticket was for going 71 in a 55. I honestly don't think I was going 71 though. I really think I was going about 65. Here's the part I don't get. They were using laser at about 1/3 mile away. My radar detector went off, I stepped on the brake and then it went off again. If they didn't get me the first time then there's no way I was doing 71. I think the first shot was another car and then the second one was meant for me but ended up getting someone else. What can I do though. I can't argue with them since I'm just going to loose. Who's going to beleive me and I sure can't say my laser detector said I got hit twice, that's asking for a fine.

DOHH!! 71 in a 55 isnt a lil over. you might be outta luck on this one.

if you were in fairfax court you might have caught a break with a good driving record. last 2 times i was there, both judges gave 1 mph off for each good driving point.

What's a good driving point? I thought you could only have 0 points.

for every year you drive with no tickets (moving violations) you are awarded a "good" driving point. you can have up to +5 good driving points. Also if you have a bad incident like this and use up your good points and or in the negitive already, you can take a driver saftey course thru the DMV that can earn you 5 good points toward your total. (i think you can take some of these courses online). otherwise the next year you are good with no incidents, you get a point back. check out the DMV site for Va. for info on it.
