For those of us (me, actually) who had to spend the day with 15 screaming 5 year olds at a birthday party, I have but one request.....
PICS!!!!!!! Pretty please? That caravan of cars leaving WalMart in Knightdale was rather impressive. Glad I got to meet some new friends, and reunite with some old ones, in person too.
Thanks, Gary, you're just trying to butter me up so I won't forget to buy you that GS when I win the NC lottery... (did you stop by the Guvnuh's house on the way back home?...).
Great day,, gents.. My feet are killing me!.. :smash: and the top of my head is burnt to a crisp  (I'm still coming to terms with middle age). Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed talking with those of you I know, and meeting many that I didn't... You guys are great to hang around with; you have lots of energy and love Corvettes - it doesn't get much better...
You can be sure that this will go on my 2002 calendar as a 'must attend'.
Take care - I may try to make the Elizabeth City show. A couple of us are already talking about making it an over-nighter.
Oh, and by the way... seeing the group coming across I-95 on 264 was a sight to behold... :yesnod:
What a great day :D
Nice to see everybody and meet some faces that go with the cars.
This was eye candy at its best with Robs 66 and Qksilver's Z06 leading a 22 car carvan. It was easy to follow, all you had to do was look for Rob's tire marks at each of the lights (well maybe at just one light). Meeting up with the group on the I95 exit was perfect. Does it get any better then this? :hat
The trip back was also fun, Rob can you say 75 in a 45, I'm sure you had a radar dectore, Right ;)
I would like to thank all the folks that put the gathering together, GREAT JOB, I'm looking forward to next year. All the cars really looked fantastic. I hope to see you all Oct 6, in Elizibeth City.
Wow! What a fun time (after blocking out the heat and annoying nats).
Robs 66 is a monster. I won't soon forget our 50-100 blast. The sound of the pipes on that 66 at WOT is amazing! It was fun putting on a little show for those following.
My favorite remark of the day was when we were in line to register. Some lady said "someone up ahead of us got on the brakes pretty hard on 264". Someone replied "Ummm, that wasn't breaks!"
I'll second GS's description of the Corvette Caravan coming across the bridge over I-95!
Chris ('96 GS), Ron Celli ('96 CE), and yours truly had just pulled up the off-ramp to 264 from I-95N when the "train" went by. What a sight (and sound!!). Couldn't have planned this impromptu link-up any better.
Gentleman, many thanks on the kind words of the "monster". I think she had a better time basking in the glory than I did.
This was by far one of the funniest events I have been too. Hooking up with everyone and caravaning down was just incredible. Nice to meet everyone that I hadn't meet before, and it was also great to see some familar faces again.
QWK, I laughed so hard about the braking comment too, that was classic!!! BTW, nice runs we had from 50-110 too. I think we made everyone jealous though, I think they wanted to play too.
Fred, LOL on the way back, but I had the radar hooked up and we were rolling, still a blast!
I hope to get some pics back in the next day or so, and I am sure some others have some to post, so lets get another post going with the pics.
Good seeing everyone, thanks very much if you voted for the 66' (that was a great surprise and honor!!!!!!!!!).
I had a great time too!! Do we have to wait a whole year for another one of these??? Somebody plan something!! :yesnod: How about we do the same thing one Sat. morning and just go get breakfast or coffee somewhere. Just don't make me stand in the sun all day. :jester
Here is full disclosure on the 50-100+ blast that Rob and I did:
Rob moved over and dropped back to get along side me. He shouted "lets race from 50-100!" I had little choice but to agree with a trail of fellow vettes behind. Well Rob hit it and I hit the wrong gear. In my panic, I hit fourth  Nice driving on my part :jester
On the second try I was a little better prepared. We both droped to 3rd and punched it. Rob had the jump by about a car length or so. I slowly reeled him in and edged him by MAYBE a car length. I'm pretty sure he was still there on my rear fender. To be honest, it took a while for my heart to settle back down. I'm a big wussy and rarely do I do things like this since I'm an :blueangel:
In all fairness, Rob's 66 was running a bit on the rich side. But my lack of driving skills equalled it out :p:
Notes to self: Practice practice practice!
As said before, the biggest thrill was hearing that bad boy at WOT. It's just a sound that cannot be described.
Sometime next spring someone will need to take me to the track and learn me! :smash:
Oh, and another testament to my lameness, I didn't turn off TC
As usual - a great time with a great bunch of folks! Ditto on the Air show portion - not even a stunt plane display! My car was hesitating all day long and seemed to finally straighten out on the way home(???). We had left early to visit my buddy's parents in Wilson and were ironically waiting at the light at Airport Blvd and 264 when I saw Rob, Mike, and others hauling a-s-s making the right on to 264. I tried to catch up but there was no way w/o a radar detector onboard! Congrats on the trophy win Rob - well deserved!! When's the next one??
Mark, good to hear she straightened up for ya'. Sorry you missed the run back, it was a lot quicker than going down. :yesnod: I had a bunch of c5's and a c4 pushing me all the way!!!
Qwk, good update on the runs, dang that was fun!!! Your Z is one bad ride, we'll have to do it again sometime. I think if it was a from a stand still though, it would be no contest. My little midyear would see nothing but the **** end of your ride. Oh, and we never shared the rides, we'll have to do that soon too.
Once again, nice seeing everyone. I hope we can all get together soon and have another cruise, why wait until next year, right?
i hear ya msj. my neck is redder than a lobster. but it was worth it. sno-cones rule!!! i thought that was you know who going the other way.........congrats to rob on P.C.. i had fun.wish i had known yall were having all the fun at the front of the pack.i would have joined ya..... see you all on oct 13th at performance i hope
