Will be moving to Mobile Al. in the next couple of months. Can anyone tell me if there are any good Vette shops/dealers in the area?
I would also like some input as where to live in the area, and if there are any Corvette clubs local.
Almost got transfered to Mobile five years back. Many people live in Fairhope ("the eastern shore" I think they call it) and commute to Mobile. The schools in the city of Mobile have had funding problems recently so I would be careful if you have kids.
The one thing that surprised me is the number of people who live there and will not move. Our company actually closed the office there. Many of the employees were offered positions in other office, but they decided to stay in Mobile instead of moving. And this was without a guarantee of any similar position locally. I thought it was nice, but I didn't see the big attraction that the locals saw.
I have a godd buddy that lived there for 25 yrs+ if you need any specific questions answered send him a PM. He is on the forum once in a while as Tampa'79
I was born and raised in Fairhope on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Fairhope is in Baldwin County. The entire county is well funded and schools are very good.
My family still lives in Fairhope (been there since the 1930s) and I visit as often as I can. It is a great place and well worth the commute to Mobile. Daphne and Spanish Fort are just across the bay from Mobile and are also good locations.
Good luck. If in Fairhope, go see Tim Jackson at his garage. He is very experienced, very honest and and will send you to the right place if he does not still work on vettes. Tell him J sent you (he dated my sister years ago).
I'll be down several times this spring and summer. Keep in touch.
Well here is the update. I got moved onto a very nice apartment,(with a garage), in Daphne. I really like the eastern shore area. I have seen quite a few Vettes in the area, and I am happy to report that the wave is alive and well in this area. Still getting familiar with the area, and have yet to actually meet any other owners, but that will happen with time. If anyone in the area wants to meet up, just let me know.
Thanks
Scott.

I have two brother in Daphne and the rest of the family is in Fairhope. I am a Fairhope native and Gulf Shores was my second home. Take a drive to Gulf Shores and travel down the peninsula to Fort Morgan. If you have the time to make a day of it take the ferry across from there to Fort Gaines on Dolphin Island (these forts guarded the mouth of Mobile Bay during the civl war). On to Mobile and back across the bayway to Spanish Fort and Daphne. It makes a nice day trip.
