Default Things to do in Charlottesville

I’m thinking about taking the wife on a long weekend, and was thinking about going to Charlottesville for a few days. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do in the area? What are some of the nicer hotels, what restaurants really stand out? I expect we will go to UVA, and Monticello, but what else is a must see / do?

Silvet Thatch is a B$B. Very quaint. I would recommend that place. If you like the outdoors and hiking, I would suggest Old Rag. It is a mountain to the north. Crozier is another good place to hang out. For fun, if you like Pizza Mellow Mushroom is fun. Outdoor mall is nice. Michie Tavern and Monticello are both good choices. If you visit UVA, be sure to walk the lawn and walk through some of the gardens.

Thanks for the input! The wife isn't going to want to hike. I did old rag years ago & liked it.

I will check out Silver Thatch, what are your thoughts on the Omni hotel or Keswick Hall? After googling some it looks like Paramount Theater is nice as well as Montpelier and Monticello. More thoughts?

The Omni and Keswick Hall are both nice. One of my older brothers had his wedding reception at the omni years and years ago. It is situated on the downtown mall so she may like that. There is also the Polo Grounds that are near, I forget the name of it off hand. I feel it is a tad west of cville. Other than those things, I can not think of too many things. I am only 26 now. Had a couple siblings go to school there and my girlfriend is from there. I nice place to eat if you like steak is maverick. It has a nice intement setting with a fire place going. Hmmmm....just can not think of to many other things. You said no to hiking, but there is a bike, walking path that runs from the base of monticello to the top that is a nice walk..long walk though. It may be too cold but the outdoor amphitheatre (sp) is on the downtown mall as well. Something could be happening there. Also look into Star Hill. They are a local brewery and bar but often do small shows upstairs. Varitey of music. John Meyer, Dirks Bentley, Dickie Betts, things like that. They may have something going on one night you are there.

Sorry I can not help out any more than that.

C&O you will like. Girlfriend used to work there. Nice setting, kinds small though. Ivy Inn is another great place as well. You have some good things there. Montpileir (sp) is about 30 minutes atleast from downtown. It is out route 20 torwards orange from 33. Driven by it lots, but never went there. Looks nice.

Be sure to bring warm clothes if you go to the top of monticello, it will be cold this time of year. Enjoy your weekend, glad I could help.
