Default Hello SE and Florida!!

Ryan here. Taking a belated honeymoon to your state in March. Flying out March 7th into Miami for the 1day/night. We are then going to rent a vert and drive down to Key West on March 8th. We will more than likely stay in Key West for 2 or 3 days, then drive up to maybe Key Largo or another "key" island. Then stay the last day and night (March 11) in Miami for my wife's birthday and fly out on Monday morning.

Any advice for a nice cheap hotel for the arrival day? Any advice for a nice hotel on the last day in Miami (for her birthday...on the beach).

Any advice about Key West locations or other Key's locations???

Thanks in advance!!!!

If you have any interst in Art Deco, you might want to spend that special night on Ocean Drive in South Beach.
Gloria Estefan and her hubby own the Cardozo Hotel http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-365972-cardozo_hotel-i
One reviewer on that page says rooms are small. There are many other beautiful art deco design hotels on that street, and it is across the street from the beach. They offer a nice walking tour of the art deco district which lasts about an hour, and is very informative. The night life on South Beach is outstanding.

Enjoy your visit

If you stay on (or near) South Beach, you can visit here:
http://blogsouthbeach.wordpress.com/...asa-causarina/
It is a beautiful house, and is privately owned. It is very close to the Cardozo.

Default Key West

You may want to get on a Key West web site and get a hotel in advance. Most of them require a 3 nite minimum. I've been going since 1984 and always stayed at the Ocean Key. It is right at Zero (0) Duval Street and once the car is parked, everything is within walking distance. You might also try www.historickeywestinns.com. We stayed there last year and was very pleased and it is a little less expensive than the Ocean Key. Good luck!!!

Cant help you on the keys but while in Miami, South Beach is the place to stay, at least for the return trip. You can return the car, and then take a taxi to a Hotel in the Beach and the next morning a taxi to the airport, that way you don’t have to worry about parking while at the Beach. The drive to the Keys is awesome, you will love it. If time permitting and if you are into nature and a bit more relaxed drive you may want to head to Flamingo, is about a 40miles drive thru Everglades National Park, no traffic, just you the car and the alligators. Enjoy......

When we go to South Beach, we always stay at the Loews Hotel, always enjoy our stay there.

In Key West, we stay at the Hilton marina hotel. IMO you can't get a better location than this hotel. Located about 2 minutes from Duval street and has great views of the sunset. After a little, research, it appears that Westin Hotels has purchased the property. I would recommend the upgrade to the marina view.

Congrats on your honeymoon man...

If you're going to Stay in K.W. then yes, you need plenty of advance notice to make sure you get a good place at a decent price.

One of my favorite places is Chelsea House. I stayed there last year and really enjoyed it. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted and it was about 180 a night for a small suite separate from the others with a separate room/living room...

Good luck and if you want to look me up while you're down here I'll be glad to help with whatever I can:

wow thanks all!!!

I will have to book everything this week! The wife wants a beach hotel, so I am guessing one that has a pool and backs up to the ocean. I wanted the B&B style, but I have learned that "yes dear" works wonders! :rofl

I will update once I get it all done.

You'll want to take a break at the Islamorada Tiki Bar because it will soon be a part of history and you can say you stopped there. Key West has a ton of bars but one fun one is Irish Kevins on Duval St. Hogs Breath has a nice T-shirt. From Florida City it is one road about 120 miles south. Watch your speed through the Keys. Bring plenty of money to spend on cheap gifts or maybe an Atocha coin / coin replica. If you go into a jewelry shop, don't be afraid to barter.( Tell them it's nice but it's too much.) Great fresh seafood, probably some nice weather because it has been cloudy for days. Choo Choo tour thru town. Interesting looking people. Key Largo is about 1 1/2 hours south of Miami. Key West about 5 hrs. Have a safe and happy trip and wave to the right when you see Speedway Blvd. Regards Tommy T.

Have fun, drive slow and enjoy the views. I would pass by the Tiki Bar on the way down, you may not make it out of there and get to Key West. But do stop by on your way back north. It's been about 5 years, but I went down there for my b-day on March 10 ( my friend's b-day is March 11) and found that it was sort of Spring Break going on, so make sure you get some reservations first. I am sure you will watch the Sunset in the Square as everyone does, dont miss it. We did one of those sunset cruises on a huge sail boat. Very romantic, but they encourage you to help out hoisting the sails, which was fun, but a lot of work and it ruined my beer buzz, so I had to start all over again. We stayed at the Holiday Inn La Concha, nice, very expensive, with a pool on the roof and right on Duval Street. If I went again, I would get a place right on the water and then walk to Duval Street. As for staying at the Tiki Bar, I would get a room at the Holiday Inn north of there or the Hampton south of there. The Tiki Bar is not known for their rooms.
Again, take it slow and have a great time.

Thanks everyone for you guidance. I ended up booking all of my nights (not including Miami for 2 nights) at the Sheraton Key West. It is on the Southern Coast of Key West. Pretty spendy, but it is for my belated honeymoon. It could have been worse.

I will try to leave the cold MN air home, you guys don't need a high of -12!!
