Keep an eye on oil changes at Ed Morse Chev in Palm Beach Gardens. We had ours done there recently, they put in 7 qts (06 C6 non-Z51). Tried to tell me GM specs req'd 7 qts -- svc mgr offered to pull GM spec on-line. I said do it -- they did, saw it said 5.5 incl filter. They somehow got most of the overage out. (I knew it was overfilled because I checked when I got home, oil was up about 1/2 inch above the hatch area on the stick). With the C6 being on the road more than 2 yrs now, no dealer svc dept should be doing that.

5.5 for the base C6, a little more for Z51 with the oil cooler -- I think 7 for the new Z06.
