Default Florida Charity Event

Hello everybody. I hope all of you are doing well. I'm writing to inform you of a charity event in Florida that I volunteered to help with, and I hope all of you would have an interest in. I think this event is going to make national headlines if we get enough people. And the Gov of FL is supposed to be involved too.

In light of the events of September 11th, the company that our club President works for, Promotional Management Services Int'l, decided to do something to help that would involve car clubs and auto enthusiasts to unite them in a good cause.

Here is what will happen…
We are talking to the United Way and Toys for Tots about helping us with this event. Details are not finalized yet, but the basic idea will remain the same. The name of the event will be Gifts Across Florida. The purpose is very simple - help lessen the pain of those in need this holiday season. Many children will be fatherless or motherless this winter.

On the designated day (target date of Nov 30th or December 2nd), a convoy of car clubs will convoy from Miami to Tallahassee. We from the Tampa area can join the convoy in Orlando or Ocala. There will be a sponsor trucking company tagging along to pick up gifts along the way. These gifts will come from donations from each community. The charities we work with will advertise to get the community to drop off gifts at local fire stations. The gifts will then be taken to a centralized location for pick-up by the convoy. There will be many stops along the way, i.e., Orlando, Gainesville, etc. The final stop will be in Tallahassee where we will present the gifts as presents from the Citizens of Florida. The gifts will then be loaded onto one more truck for delivery to Washington, DC, and New York City. Governor Jeb Bush’s office replied that the Governor is interested in being on hand at the arrival of the convoy.

There is another part to this event. Each participant in the convoy will be encouraged to get a sponsor (friends, family, employees, businesses, etc) for his car. The sponsor will pledge a certain amount of money per mile that you complete in the convoy. Note that you do not have to collect any money and you don’t have to complete the whole distance to Tallahassee. If you can only go 100 miles, that is great. Anyway, the money will then go to a sponsoring bank that is capable of buying treasury bonds. The bank will then buy treasury bonds in the name of the children of the policemen and firefighters that gave their lives that day.

We are working very hard on this event, and if you have read this far, I thank you. If this is something you are interested in, please email me at jerrylh3@yahoo.com so I can send you updates and info. Please try to find others that may be interested in this event. SPREAD THE WORD :) It would be cool to see which club raises the most money, or has the most cars in attendance etc.

As I get more info, I will post it here. I put an FAQ from PMSI on our club website that might answer some questions… http://www.mrccfl.com/charityfaq.html The link doesn't work just yet, so please direct any questions you may have to me.

Thank you and God Bless America.
