[Recap] Spring Skyline '07

I do not have a $$$ total yet, but I know we collected over $2K. I'll get the final number posted as soon as I know what it is. What I do know is that we collected over $500.00 more then the standard registration fee would have brought in. You are a most generous group and for that I am truly touched. You all deserve a round of applause...
My nephew Mike had some car trouble as he was entering the park and finally made it to Stony Man as a passenger in Gentle Ben's C6. Thanks Ben! You're the best! So, we decided to go work on the car before the rain hit and missed lunch at Big Meadows. (Yes, he got home OK.) I'm itching to find out how lunch went! I hope it went well and that there was parking for everyone. Was it better then Brookside???
Mark your calendars for October 20th for this fall's cruise. (New date...)
Thanks again for turning out yesterday. It's great to see all of you veterans each and every cruise. And it's nice to see all those new faces as well. It never ceases to amaze me by how many people come up to me and tell me this is their first Corvette event. I'm confident that for those newbies, it's a great introduction to truly wonderful Corvette folks!
I also want to thank SVCC, especially Val and Andy, Tim Frees from JE Chevy, and the Young Marines for all their help and effort. Doing these cruises is just plain fun!
I haven't finished processing my pics yet, but here is a group shot:
Thank YOU and Linda because you all have this thing running so smoothly, we don't have to do that much!
I think lunch went pretty well. We had some people that turned into the visitor's center instead of going back to the lodge, but they found their way eventually. I thought the food was good, and they served us pretty quickly. There wasn't any wait as far as I know, except for Ron's table (I think they lost their order? I guess it just wasn't Ron's day). They had plenty of servers, and were very nice. We wondered what happened to you all, and I didn't have a cell signal up there, so I couldn't call you...........glad Mike made it home okay.
We missed the rain.......I guess we stayed up top a bit longer than everyone else. When we came down we only saw 2 other cars still on the drive!
Thanks again to everyone!
Val
I liked this new route better!
Lunch, ehhh... Better than brookside but it took 15 minutes to get our menus and another 20 for our food to get out!
Once again THANKS JIM and SVCC!

When we got to Big Meadows half the cars were going right and half straight ahead and as luck would have it, we went the wrong way. Nathan saved us (I think) by coming into the restraunt and announcing we were in the wrong place. Fortunately, the waitress was nice enough to let ue bail after only ordering drinks.
Once in "the lodge" there were no seats available near my group. After a few minutes of musical chairs we all were seated. I then ordered the exact same thing I was getting at the other place but at $1.50 more. Joe's Reuben came with no meat on it and after waiting 15 minutes for a manager, was sent back. By the time his sandwich came, we were thinking dessert. When the checks came we had not even been offered a dessert menu, so had to ask for one. I was charged for a drink I didn't have and double charged for dessert. Rebecca was shorted on her change. I think they were a little overwhelmed to say the least.
I'm not whinning, just relating our lunch. This certainly didn't bothered us at all and it was a great expierence especially the driving part. Just thought I'd mention it. Even won a door prize and made it back to West Virginia before it rained!!!
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
We ended up at the other restaurant as well. We stayed there since I felt bad about getting up and leaving after being seated and ordering drinks. Plus we were lazy
It was much better than Brookside, but nothing to write home about. But I didn't expect fine dining there, either. As long as it is decent food, with decent service, and reasonably priced for what I'm getting, I'm happy.
from *89x2* who hasn't posted since the wheel episode, where he was right and party in the wrong refused apology...
He wanted me to pass along his thanks to Jim for another great drive! We have been going to these events now for five years. In fact, one person there (JAA1988) said he remembers our first Skyline where my oldest daughter was then three years old and riding in "daddy's Corvette" for the trip. We included her sister this year (who is three), as my wife accompanied me for the trip (but I lost her on 211 - ooops...)
Anyways, all was great, with one exception... Who let the guy (with Florida tags I think) in the 2003 Anniv. edition, out of his bubble? At Jack Evans Chevy, I was helping my wife remove her top - targa top, that is - when a guy parked beside her told me to, "shut off the engine," as he couldn't breathe. WHAT!!! You cannot breathe??? You gotta be kidding... How on Earth do you survive outside your bubble?? I was advised the exhaust fumes were bothering him, and there was a lot of time until we departed*
(*reality check shows we left w/ in three minutes of his bitch session).
So for the ~ 130 Corvettes who seemingly had a great trip, SUPER! We had a blast as well! The picnic we had with our friends at Big Medow was great, and my girls saw four deer, amongst other wildlife. I saw a fox, later identified as my wife
For the one guy who complained about my wifes Corvette that has passed emissions every year we have owned it, I gotta say this - K.M.A. & go back to your bubble before you wilt...
Jim, thanks again - see you in the fall, if not sooner!
