We had the cable changed on my son's 93, and when it was done, it shifted very smooth, but would not go over 3000 RPM. There is a lock on the cable that releases and you can slide the cable to adjust. We just released it, then slid the cable out a bit, locked it down and test drove it. Did that a couple times until it shifted "normal" and would run out to the redline. I don't think there is an exact location for a "factory setting". Not sure it this helps or not, but it solved our problems.

Thanks everyone...I seem to recall there is a way to do a factory setting...it is something like press the release button , slide the cable toward the firewall, press the gas pedal to the floor...then lock the button again...something like that anyway brings it to the factory setting...I can't seem to remember it exactly...

I do remember being told years ago to be very, very careful when fooling with the TV Cable since the wrong setting could burn up the tranny real quick...

There is a procedure, but I have never seen it. We had the cable changed (much easier to do on a lift), and it came back set at the silver mark in the picture above. Like I said, the car was short shifting and wouldn't run up over around 3K, shifts were almost undetectible. We backed the setting up just a bit and it got better. It ended up being just about perfect at the setting you see. Runs right to red line and shifts firm, but not harsh like it was doing when the original cable was messed up. Shifting is very good under day to day driving as well. Been set at this setting since just before Thanksgiving. By the way, that cable is no longer available from GM. Took us 3 weeks to find a decent used one.
