Travel time from Brandon,fl to tampa airport
Im trying to gauge my commute from differant areas that im looking at homes. I have to travel to just south of the airport. If I move to south Tampa my commute will be 20 minutes but have less of a house.
If I move to Brandon, Fl Ill get much more of a home with less taxes, but a longer commute.
any guys live in brandon and travel into the airport area daily and how long is the commute. I wont be taking the vette.
I want to gauge:
During traffic hours, 7:00-8:30am to the airport area from Brandon
and back home from just south of the airport to Brandon at 5:00-6:30pm
Id be going the express crosstown
thanks
Phil

Unfortunately, those are peak travel times
From the ariport south to Kennedy Blvd., pretty much a breeze. Most are headed north. Probably a total of 10 minutes.
Kennedy east toward any feeder to get to the X-town...20 minutes! Traffic is heavy as fleas on a dogs back that time of day.
The cross town to brandon from say Willow is about 15-30 depending again on how well traffic's flowing.
The entire commute should take about 45-60 minutes.
Make sure you have good music, a calm soul and plenty of patience...you'll need it.

There are some ways to quicken the ride by using the back roads once you learn the area Unfortunately they won't take that much time off the ride, just lessen the aggravation of dealing with the idiots in traffic out on a day pass!

I could live with the 45 minutes, but the hour will push be back to my NYC type commutes.
Ill be at work at about 7-7:30a, but want to leave by 5:30p.
7 more years till retirement though !

If you're on the road before 7-7:30, you should be good. Most of the traffic back up starts about then.
Coming home, any time between about 4:30-6:00 sucks!

I work just SE of the airport. Lois and Boy Scout. The problem is getting from that area to the selmon crosstown. I live near Ellenton/Bradenton and actually go through St. Pete to get home instead of going the selmon to 75. It is a few miles further but much quicker.
May want to check out the Safety Harbor area.

And coming in during the morining isn't bad either simply becasue everyone else is headed the other direction
Safety Harbor is beautiful and other than Pinellas County gouging on taxes, it's not a bad place to live I'd move in a heartbeat if I could afford it

Somewhere down here I passed a garage called Mcleod service center. I wanted to sned you a picture of it, but didnt come across it. It could be the field of dreams for you and your brother !
For some reason, the wifie was not keen on St. Pete, but for me it's still on the table !

There are some very nice areas of St. Pete, but it's still the home of the newly wed and nearly dead
Traffic sucks there too and it would take you just as long to get to/from work as it would to go to Brandon, and you'd pay more $$ for less home.
Safety Harbor would be an ideal choice for value, proximity, investment and travel. If you have kids, there's a lot for them to do in both counties and in Safety Harbor, they're close enough to both to enjoy life.
If not, it's quiet but still close enough to the night life and performing arts/sports to enjoy
Have your wife check it out. She might be surprised

Hey Phil, Check out the Oldsmar area. I used to live there. Its just west of Tampa, and no real interstate travel to speak of. Very nice area. Property there was very reasonable 7 years ago, dont know about now. I know its been built up quite a bit since I left.

Ed,
after you left, property value increased Ill look for Oldmar on the map tomorrow.
Some of the problem I found was alot of tampa area has been designated a flood zone, and home owners insurance is upward of $3K

Phil,
This POS Citizens Insurance, the State backed program , has extended "flood zones" out several miles from thier original designations. Many of the areas they claim are "flood zones" will not flood until the rest of the city is underwater At that point, it's a moot issue since we'll all be treading water!
Unfortunately the Oldsmar/Safety Harbor areas are likey going to be in that "flood zone" area simply due to thier proximity to the bay.
But if you can swing it, it's still a great place to hang your hat.
I've been over there during major storms and just afterward and most of Oldmar and Safety Harbor were fine.
St. Pete? Thats another story all together along with South (Submarinersville) Tampa.
