How to Make a Proper Post Title...[Rant]
[VA RATPACK] Williamsburg Cruise-In August 30
This is a GREAT title. It's properly punctuated, gives the the Group (which also tells you what STATE), the Town/City, and the Date.
Packys aug 16 come on out
(Sorry to pick on you) What the hell is ‘Packys’? I know the date, but no idea WHERE. The fact that I don't know what Packy’s is doesn't hinder my curiosity, but the fact that the location isn't in plain view means I’m not even going to bother clicking. Remember, this forum is for 11 states. Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Lousiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tenessee, and Virgina. That means there’s a 91% chance it’s NOT in the state I’m in.
You might say, 'Well, if you don't know Packy’s then you're not from the area so it doesn’t matter.' Not true. There are people who visit from out of state, there are people who may never really eat out, or people like myself who just moved to Florida who would love to come out and meet other Corvette enthusiasts.
If your title can't answer who/what/where/when then it's not such a great title. Now obviously you don't need to include the exact time and latitude and longitude coordinates in the title, but what the heck is so hard about putting State - Town/City - Date - Event in a title?
I'm sure people would appreciate a State or at least a town and a date rather than a 'hey lets go do stuff someplace whenever'
Up until now I thought this was all common sense...

Sorry if anyone feels criticized. I’m just venting.

I hate when I have to look at post just to see which state, much less what town an event is being held in. We had a post a few months back where the proper format for listing an event was discussed.
The post titles announcing or referencing an event should include date, state and town in my opinion.

I do a lot of traveling and try to look at the area that I will be in to see if there will be any local Vette events when I do have some free time. So far it has been pretty much NADA or I just can't find them. The group in Maryland is pretty good though, good bunch of Vetters too.
I just wanted to remind the guys who are organizing these events, which I really appreciate by the way, that there are right and wrong ways to 'market' the activity. I like to attend huge turn outs and meet new people.
If you want more people to show up, understand what its like for someone NEW trying to FIND your event.
Sticky?

You can make assumptions, but we all know what "assume" does...

I guess we could politely ask each OP with a new topic to update their title, in time it will be an accepted standard.

The problem with that is you can't edit a thread title without a moderators help. You have to get the title right the first time.
Hopefully enough folks will read this post and start to title in a way that helps us all.

I had once considered making event thread titles contain specific info but everytime we propose a "rule" *gasp* someone gets their panties in a knot....

:I think it is a good rule...I try to do it usually. But I do agree with all the others so far. At least the state the even is held in should be in the title.

Of course you could always just "assume" where it might be.

OK, no quote works...Bob...Folks have no idea where you are located based on your avatar....they know that your sponsor is in south florida but that's it.... kinda like our friend who lives nowhere near south florida but is sponsored by a south florida shop...if he were to put "MF Racing sponsored by Airflow Technology in South Florida" as his location and folks assumed he was down there also they would be dead wrong...

At least you give folks a chance to guess you are in south florida too...a lot of members don't put any location at all...they all can't be in the witness protection program...

You know, looking at my avatar I always ASSumed (for the benefit of SJSZ06,
you are correct) it was self explanatory.
Looking at it FAIRLY as someone who really does not know what I was thinking (kinda like me
) It's pretty clear that you are correct.
I will correct it accordingly.
Damn, there goes my forty something years of NEVER BEING wrong

As to knowing where South Florida is... would Miami qualify? I lived there between 1981 and 1985. Only moved for a better job. Sure do miss the beaches! So I do envy you...

all right - my title change request is in....
you coming to dinner now?
i see you live in "USA" wanna narrow that to one of the 11 states in the section?
