I am thinking about relocating from New Jersey to Wetumpka, Alabama. Anyone in the Southeast Forum know the Wetumpka area? In a real estate search it showed more than 250 homes for sale, seems high even in this economy, any reason why people are leaving?
Look up a CFOT member named J S Machine. He posts often in the off topics section. He lives there and can steer you in the right direction. I have not heard of an exodus from Wetumpka.

Hey vette4me, I haven't seen anyone leaving the Wetumpka area, just the opposite. People are moving out of Montgomery to Wetu., and the Prattville-Millbrook area. There was a huge amount of housing being built in these areas, up to the point where the mortgage market died.
That might explain what seems like a lot of houses for sale.
In general anywhere on the outskirts of Montgomery are great places to live.
Good luck with your search. And Welcome to the neighborhood!

I used to live in Wetumpka, AL. If you can try and find a place in the "Redland" area off Redland Rd. or Riffle Range Rd. From there you are a quick hop to both downtown Wetumpka and the East side of Montgomery. If possible look for something in, or around the Hazel Green Estates area. If you ride dirt bikes I can tell you some great places to ride too.
I live in Prattville and there are plenty of homes for sale both new and old. I'm sure our sister communities of Wetumpka and Millbrook are similar. This area has seen a huge explosion of new shopping areas & centers. Plus with the Hyundai plant opening up in Montgomery a year or so ago also helped increase the amount of new housing starts in this area.
Cost of living here is CHEAP TOO! Property taxes are stupid cheap. Living here has saved me enough money to enable the purchase of a new '09 ZO6!
I may be Yankee by birth, but I'm redneck now by choice!
