Default Performance shops in Hampton Roads

I know some of the obvious ones but are their any shops which are very good with heads, cam, supercharger or nitrous installations? Looking to turn up the heat in 2002. :yesnod:

I don't know if you want to do anything yourself, but I'll help you turn some wrenches. I try and learn as much as I can. Now that motor that RJ has in his car, he built himself. (Well maybe Lee helped him do some.) But with some knowledge of motors, it can be done pretty easy. The machine work might be a little different though.
But I am sure Jack will tear that motor down and hook it up right for you!

I Can Hook you up with someone as far as machine work goes... With my dad being the owner of a machine shop in norfolk I know of some good folks.

Dave, it is really not that complicated to do your own work. The key to making HP is research. Look real hard at what you want out of your motor and then go from there. Never sacrifice drivability for HP you always regret it in the end (on a street driven car of course).

The only thing I will caution you on is that the more you build a motor the more sensitive it is to small problems. To be more specific take a stock motor vs. a built motor. You could drive home from the dyno or a trip with a burnt sparkplug wire on a stock motor, on a built motor you may not even be able to get it started. So reliability is a factor. Please let me know if I can help, there is not much I have not dissected on the LT1 including the PCM.

RJ

RJ,
I bought a TNT nitrous Twister kit yesterday but need to get some other parts before the install (window switch or nitrous controller, purge line, auto bottle opener, bottle heater, fuel pressure and A/F gauge).

I need to upgrade the ignition and replace the wires and plugs, one reason I didn't run at the dyno (low RPM miss). I will need to have the computer modified to hopefully take some slack out of the trans and adjust the shift points upward and make sure that I don't run lean.

I had a heck of a time at Richmond last month with traction so new sticky tires will need to be purchased. I plan on keeping this car for awhile so the mods will be over this year. I would love to build a 383 but getting the motor tuned right and getting the car to hook on the juice will the first order of business. It would be great if I could get some help with tuning and suggestions on parts.

I hadn't drag raced in 11 years and getting back on the track last month really lit a fire. I am looking for a reliable car that I can cruise in any weather, drive to work and cut low 12's at the track.

Just let me know if you need something. I have been tuning for about a year and a half now so I can answer most questions with regard to the PCM operation.. I would caution you on the A/F gauge- unless you are using a wideband ($$$) its not accurate enough for WOT tuning. It is a cool light to watch in the A-pillar gauge pod. I tuned with stock O2's and I ended up at 14.5 at WOT! I got lucky that I knew not push my car till I got on the dyno.

RJ,
I really need to pick your brain on your post. What is the best way to monitor the engine while on the spray. I am just so much of a carb guy and when it comes to tuning a EFI engine I am kinda lost for specifics. ??
