I am applying for a job with the Cherokee Police Department in North Carolina. I can't find a website for the police department. Can anyone help me out with information on their police department? Does anyone have any good or bad run-ins with the officers there? Thanks!
Beautiful ski town in the Smokey Mountains. If you like rural settings and outdoor activities it is a great place to live.
Lots of cool small towns in the surrounding area, including Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Asheville and Knoxville to name a few.
Really great twisties to drive, not far from Deals Gap; Tail of the Dragon (300+ turns in 11 miles).
I don't know much about the PD, but I am a retired LE and from my travels and the officers I meet there are good and bad to work with and you just have to deal with it.

Thanks, my wife is from Sylva N.C. which is in that area, been to the area numerous times. After 15 years of law enforcement in cold cold Wisconsin I promised my wife I would apply for jobs down there. So just trying to find out what I can about law enforcement in Cherokee and the surrounding area.
Are either you or your wife an enrolled member of the Qualla Boundary? You may want to call the BIA office there for more information. Good luck to you and it would be great to have a LE friend in that area!
You might also want to look into the NCHP post near Bryson City. I have several friends who are LE/HP in that area. Come to think of it, one of them is married to a girl from Sylva....
I think it is a dry county because of the Indians. There is a motorcycle rally there and lots of tourism.
I think under Bureau of Indian Affairs rules Native American Reservations are supposed to be dry. My wife and I have visited family in Sylva, N.C. numerous times and love the area, just can't find any information on the police department and how they are with working with the community.
lord knows they need some LEO's....2 hour wait at Harrah's for a accident report (bumped in the parking lot) and this was after both parties agrred to no report and exchange info only....we were blocked from leaving the scene due to the fact the Cherokee PO PO had been called and we are required to stay until they arrive. Harrah's Security(who called the PO PO) about had a 9mm pulled on them and told to move their darn trucks so we could leave then thought better of it....wasn't sure what the reservation laws were concering firearms on the reservation so we just kept it put up and waited the 2 hours...after the 2 hour wait, cherokee's finest finally shows up so we could exchange info.. no report. Guess they had to witness the exchange of info???
#1...Will never be visiting Cherokee again.
#2. Will never be in a Harrah's Casino again...'specially one that doesn't serve up any firewater.
