I have located a clue in the "Where In The World Did My Car Come From" mystery. While the last address titled is North Carolina I located a new tub part that was shipped to an address in South Carolina. The label reads:
Charles Smith Chevrolet, Inc
991 S. IRBY Street
Florence, SC 29501
I haven't been able to locate the company or the street to a location other than a vacant lot. So, my question to any of you that might read this and please, consider what you know or others that may know, is the company still around? Has it moved? Is it long gone now?
Second question. Is there a Corvette Club in Florence, SC that may have members old enough to recall the dealership and or members in the club. It is a long shot but someone just might know something that helps me keep looking.
Have your tried Allied Vaughn in MI for your original shipping invoice? I used to live in Hartsville (17 miles NW of Florence) so I'll check on the dealer and get back to you.

Yes I did. Allied Vaughn only has vehicle invoice data for 1977 and newer vehicles. I was able to get the invoices for both of my 1977's, but the 1971 data is not available through Allied Vaughn. I appreciate anything you can find and share with me on the dealer.
Thank you and best regards,
David Howard
The only Chevy dealer in Florence is Newsome Chevrolet (http://www.newsomechevy.com), which used to be on Irby Street. I think it has been Newsome for about 30 years.
You can go to a DMV and they can do a search of all owners of a car based on the VIN number. In Kansas it used to be 10 dollars and from there you can do Google searches, etc to track it back. Won't always get you there but its an option.
