Looking to register a C6 Z06 here in N.C. So far i've only heard horror stories but it could be coming from a bunch of whiners. How is the emissions testing here? As long as the car isn't throwing codes and smelling like a gas can i should be fine? Is it 3% sales tax on the car? I'm looking to fly down this weekend or next to get my car from louisiana and drive it back. But i would love to have the registration business straight before i get down there. Signed title and proof of insurance should be good enough to get me back if any police officers decide to pull me over for the plates. Can you get a temp plate through a private party sale?
I'm down in Fayetteville (Fayette-Nam) if anyone knows a "friendly" testing shop in the area. Or in Raleigh? The car will have a a bunch of mods, (Cam, Heads, Headers, Intake, Exhaust ect), so i sweat it a little bit.
Thanks!
Matt

Reason: spelling
The emissions test (for newer vehicles) is just a check of the vehicle's OBD system.
Here is a link to the NC DMV website which should answer most of your questions. http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_services/
I agree, call the DMV (don't go there as the lines are too long) and ask for what is needed. South Carolina is the best state to own a car, no inspections and the DMV is computerized. Make sure you have the title signed over to you before you leave with the Vette. I think it's a good idea to make up a bill of sale, too. If you have USAA insurance (military stuff) call them and they'll take care of what you need for insurance. Good luck with the new Vette
Yeah i love having USAA as my bank, they are really easy to work with. I also think i'm exempt from paying the county tax for i'm a non resident and military, atleast according to the website and asking a few other soldiers around here. Just trying to get the info and facts straight. The bank just sent me his title, so i'll have that signed.
Matt, if your car is registered in Louisiana leave it...mine is still registered there of course I do have a permanent addy there too. I have lived in 3 states and have not worried about changin plates/registration to much BS and besides I dont like paying for something I have already paid for....
Yeah the car is registered with the previous owner there in Louisiana, not me. So i'll have to register it somewhere else, for I do not have a state residency there or live there. Thanks for the help however!
