I haven't either but for 5 laps on a track that's capable of well over twice that speed, it would have to feel like you're cruising through a school zone after 1/2 a lap, especially in a car built for speed.
I am looking forward to this great event again this year. I have made all but two and really enjoy the privilege of being able to drive on AMS, the friends and supporting the cause.
Yes - they are paced laps and with good reason by the folks that put on the event and the track officials. The pack of cars however spreads out and slinkys a few times.
Don't pass the pace car or everyone is finished.
Yeah - you can go out and drive faster around I-285, and talk about it here.
If you have not tried it and think paced laps are silly on a race track, I urge you to come out and try it.
Here are some vids from CABC7 and CABC6 -
CABC 7. 10-3-2009
CABC 6. October 2008
It rained most of the night before and was still sprinkling a bit. Part One -
Part Two -
You can always get some great pictures too -

Yes the pace car travels at 80 MPH. No you can't pass it, however I have seen cars pass other cars in the pack.
You have 20 cars on a 1 1/2 mile track. If you are in the back half of the pack and lag behind a bit you can get short bursts of speed significantly faster than 80 MPH.
No racing is allowed and you will be told that several times!
Believe me you won't feel like your cruising through a school zone!

Thank you for explaining this. We make every effort to insure a safe environment for all participants. That is why we are including two novice sticks for 1st time track drivers.
I really just wanted to bump the thread up as its only two days away.
But had to say thanks to all past participants and those who take the time to inform the new participants
Hey guys, in the past I have owned 2 C5 vettes and really enjoyed them. My dad bought a new 09 vette and I now have a 02 supercharged viper. I'm from TN and want to take a trip somewhere this weekend. Heard about this great event and was wondering if a "Viper" could or would be allowed to attend. Yes I own a Viper but also still love the vettes.
Can someone let me know asap if this is possible? It's about a 5 hour drive so want to make sure I can participate. Might also get my dad to come with his 09 vette.
