Hmmm - Hampshire IL - if you have kids, I'm guessing they go to D300 schools... I graduated from Jacobs HS just up Randall Rd from you... small world... lol.
Depending on which way you go to Myrtle - stop by the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg TN, stop by the Corvette Factory/Museum in Bowling Green KY, stop by the Tail of the Dragon in Deals Gap NC - http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
Near Deals Gap is Gatlinburg TN - its like the Wisconsin Dells of the south - big tourist area. In the Charlotte area there is a lot of Nascar stuff to do... checkout the various race shops - Hendrick Motorsports, the Nascar Hall of Fame, etc. If your into history - there is the American Revolution battlefield you can tour in nearby Kings Mountain, NC.

Thats a quick response... not sure all what your looking for. Hopefully that helped.
You're spot on with D300, both kids graduated from Hampshire.
We did the distillery a few years ago and go to the museum every couple of years.
Tail of the dragon is on the short list, Gatlinburg sounds interesting.
We were also thinking about the Biltmore Estate.
I'd love to see all the Nascar stuff but it will bore the wifey
Thanks for the ideas and I bet you miss the winters
Sunburn........now you're rubbing it in. :
We had over 100 accidents last night in Chicago due to freezing rain!
Nice video, looks like fun.
What winery do you speak of?
I love BBQ. Any suggestions?
Already googled it.......$60 for the tour, is it worth it?
Unless I find anything else to see, the trip is shaping up like this:
1st day, drive to Gatlinburg (in the vette of course) stay over night.
2nd day head out early see the Biltmore, then to Charlotte to see some Nascar stuff and on to Myrtle Beach.
Stay there 4-5 days, check out the Tail and get home the next day.
Thanks for your input.

We have 2 kinds of NC BBQ , West and east. West is some sort of red sauce , while the East is a vinegar base red pepper sauce
