Dude, that was an awsome burnout. I just recently installed some mods on my car and my first time out did the same thing without the tree being involved. If you don't watch out, they'll get away from you quick.
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Mr Mojo)
If you're gonna drive like a Gramma get a Yugo. I didn't hear him whining about the climb. HE did the deed and paid the price $$$ and humiliation, but he WAS lucky as hell it went up instead of DOWN :smash: :bb
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Mr Mojo)
This is Redhotvette's son. OUCH! I think thats a good lesson to younger drivers. I'm not trying to bash the driver though, things like this just happen sometimes. Whoever was laughing on the camera is a complete idiot. Maybe he doesn't realize that you don't laugh at accidents?
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Mr Mojo)
I agree with Ann and Mojo anybody that says they have never pushed there car pass the point of no return, probably got soap in there mouth quite a bit for lying. I still remember my ride in my 68 firebird 400 thru a corn field
Interesting that this was my incident for the day after hitting 140 chasing YELLOHHH on Route 66 heading to Skyline in the morning.
James, I'm glad to hear that you're ok. The car doesn't look too bad from the pictures. If I had a dime for everything that I've done and now regret, I'd be driving an LPE 427 TT. I had a blast cruising out 66 with you, and everyone else, even if it did make me miss my exit... Because there was no personal injury, and even property damage was minimal, we can all look back and have a good laugh. However, we should all take this as a lesson learned. It's a shame that it takes something like this to give us all a smack of reality. This reminds me of something I read in an article about high performance driving. "It's better to go into a corner slow, and come out of it fast, then to go into it fast, and come out of if dead." This was an honest mistake that could have happend to anyone. James, I'll still cruise with you any day. The car will be good as new in no time, and we'll be back out there. Be safe out there guys (and gals).
Greg
:cool:
ps. I'm sure the person laughing in the video did not know the seriousness of the situation at the time. Had I been there, I may have laughed at first too, but once I saw that it was serious, I would have stopped laughing and started running to help. I don't know who it was, but I can't imagine anyone of us there would have laughed, knowing that there could have been an injury, or serious property damage.
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (YELLOHHH)
Thanks YELLOHHH,
The vette is in the shop now so I'll see what kind of damage she has very soon. I'm usually a pretty good driver but there is no good excuse for this incident. I engaged my foot long before my brain for which I will pay the price for repairs. I'm thankful that my f_up didn't cause any injuries or property damage to anyone but myself. Overall, I was driving the Skyline Drive pretty tame this year but I more than made up/screwed up for that at Brookside. Thanks to everyone who helped and who realizes we all push it sometimes with our vettes. I just went too far and way beyond my ability this time.
I apologize to anyone and everyone for my actions. Those who know me understand that I'm usually conservative and that this behavior is very unusual. I promise everyone that this was my last attempt at a stupid burnout--especially since I have just proved I'm nowhere near good enough to do this safely (Mojo--I need to learn from you, the master of burnout, I guess).
It sucks, it's good, and you've obviously learned a lesson and probably taught a few to those who saw this video. Maybe a few will think twice before they try to push it beyond the machines or their driving ability. Hopefully you've saved a few others that mistake.
It sucks that you had the accident, but it's good the the damage is so minimal (considering) and that everyone is OK.
I agree with the above posts that we've ALL done stupid things before that were beyond our limits as drivers or machine. At least you're lesson came rather cheaply in terms of damage or injury.
Don't feel too bad, it happens to the best of us. I was leaving work one day and all the guys were standing at the front door. I had no choice but to do a small burnout (it turned out to be a big one). I don't know what happened. It was going good and I was just letting off the brake when all of a sudden it hooked and sent me sideways. My correction didn't help and I ended up going over a sidewalk (not a straight up and down sidewalk, the kind you can drive over) and into a vacant field full of grass. I felt like such an a.ss. The was dust and dirt everywhere. No damage other than the alignment was out. I drove deliveries around that area of the city for 3+ years and for some reason every person I delivered to knew about the incident. I had no explanation other than I was showing off and lost it. I still have the tires from that episode...'

Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Mr Mojo)
looks like a newbie driver with to much car.....
that poor c5
He's far from being a newbie.
Why can't anyone cut him a break, it was an accident. It wasn't done on purpose :mad
I'll cut him one. :yesnod: :)
(Flame suit on)
I think that takeoff was awesome up until the point where it (the car) went around. Like has been said before in this thread, anyone who criticises 007's driving either hasn't driven their Corvette like it was intended (they don't just look pretty - they are a huge amount of fun to drive hard - although this point is lost on alot of people), they are a liar, or have been extremely lucky to have not made a miscalculation while driving hard so far.
I've been in a very similar incident (yes - I was driving). It happens, and fortunately in this case the only injury was a bruised ego. While safety is a concern on the street, if everyone drove their Corvette like a grandma when they went out with their buddies life would be pretty boring.
It was an accident. I think the fact that the driver (who I've never met) is a member here who is talking openly about the incident with humility and even went so far as to apologise to everyone here for the incident says alot for the guys character also IMO.
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Red 90 L98 Coupe)
While safety is a concern on the street, if everyone drove their Corvette like a grandma when they went out with their buddies life would be pretty boring. It was an accident.
I respectfully disagree. This was a collision due to aggressive driving. Motor vehicle crashes are not inevitable, they are avoidable.
A quick Internet search on aggressive driving will return results like:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as "the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner which endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property."
Aggressive driving is emotionally impaired driving.
We all have fast cars, so there is no need to show off to a group of Corvette owners who all know what the Corvette is capable of. This event reflects neglect to oneself, the vehicle, the property owner and the organizers of this Corvette event.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says, about 66 percent of all traffic fatalities annually are caused by aggressive driving behaviors.
I like other Corvette owners and don't want to see them dead. Remember that collisions are caused by the way we drive. Everyone has the power to set an example. We all have the power to be less aggressive, which will help make our roadways safer. Use that power.
Re: Skyline C5 "up-a-tree" video ------> (Pat97Vette)
Pat, I have to disagree with you on one point. What you have posted describes a reckless driver. There is a difference between aggressive driving and reckless driving.
I had a post on this over two years ago and most seem to agree with me on this.
UPS is one of the most safety concious companies out there and they tell us to drive aggressively.
Reckless driving has no place anywhere on our streets or on the racetrack.
