?? about SE Memphis area
My wife has transferred with work and we're moving to the area in a month or so. We have looked online and narrowed our search to either Collierville or Olive Branch. What can you tell me about these areas... or is there any reason to avoid them. It's just the wife and I so schools make no difference. We're looking for most bang for a our $$ on housing, low taxes and safe area.
If I had that choice, I'd take Collierville. No disrespect to Olive Branch, but MS has a state income tax. Collierville is a nice community, close enough to Memphis, yet far enough away.
It has beautiful shopping areas, nice restaurants, and is well maintained. Crime is low, comparatively to other communities close by. Housing costs are better than reasonable when compared to other areas of the country, especially consider I moved here in 92 from Tampa Bay.
Sales tax here in West Tennessee is 9.75%, sucks.
Not knowing where you're coming from, I can't compare your weather, but here is better than most.
Welcome to Memphis! PM me for more if you like.

Housing costs have traditionally been relatively reasonable in price in the Memphis area.
Collierville is a nice area. mrs.savewave and I looked at houses there when we moved back here in 2006. Even found one that had a four-car garage with a four-post lift installed.
Not having any kids in the household, I liked the idea of living on the river and we looked at a number of houses and lofts on Mud Island and in the South Bluffs area. Parking, taxes and politics ended up being the turning point for us, however.
We ended up in Lakeland because it is incorporated and has no city taxes.
Good luck in your search and if you have any specific questions, just shoot me a PM.
