Please tell me the best way to enter the northest most 'Blue Ridge Parkway' considering I get on RT.95 South-bound, and or.... Going west on the PA turnpike to RT.81 Southbound ?

Needless to say I'd perfer the Safest and most well Taken care Of highways.

Thank you.

Also is the parkway well signed so I can't get lost or losing my way southbound.

Hello, Jim:

I drove the entire Blue Ridge Parkway 2 years ago and it was a wonderful road trip. I started with Skyline Drive which is actually north of the BRP. It is a beautiful 100 mile road thru Shennadoah (sp?) Natl Park which starts in Front Royal, VA and ends at Rockfish Gap, VA. The BRP starts at Rockfish Gap and ends in NC at the Great Smoky Mt Natl Park.

If you want to follow my route, getting to Front Royal from I-81, I-66 is quite easy. A start at Rockfish Gap is also very easy from I-81, I-64. Both drives are well marked and the roads (2 years ago) were in excellent condition.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you Nancy,
I wanted to start at 'Front Royal, VA' and go southbound. I live about a 1/4 from RT.95 in southeastern Pennsylvania and I could get to the Washington Beltway and go around to VA. 66 or take the PA turnpike to RT 81 and go south, I know RT.95 is a beat up road so I'm thinking taking the PA turnpike and RT. 81 South and just use my easy-pass to 81 and then where do I exit 81 to get to Front Royal VA? Thank you for your help. Next is to put on the front end mask.

Jim -

You'll exit off I-66 to route 340 So. and Front Royal. The signage is excellent, you won't have a problem finding the start of Skyline Drive.

If you Google "Skyline Drive" and "Blue Ridge Parkway" you'll find tons of information and tips.

Nancy

PS - I have a black bra on my Anni coupe and I really like the way it looks and protects my bumper from rock chips.

The exit off of Route 81 South is Exit #300 to get to Route 66 East. Then take Exit #13 - it should be a right turn at the end of the exit ramp onto Route 79, then another right turn onto Route 55. Just follow the signs into Front Royal (there will also be signage to get into Shenandoah National Park).

Hope this helps.

Default MY BRP trip,

Thank you guys, I think the idea of the PA turnpike to 81 and go south to exit 300 is the best route. Less local truck and triaxles dump trucks then there's the Beltway traffic ? I worked in New York for 9 years, people have no idea what a taffic jam is till you've spent 3 hours on the FDR to go 1 mile. Thank you !

Once you get into the Carolinas, there are lots of great roads just off the BRP if you like lots of turns and hills. Just look at a map and go where the roads look like scribbles on the map. This time of year is outstanding up there. Bring a camera.
