So my wife and I are thinking about driving up for the Petit Le Mans, be cool since we went to Sebring thought it would be cool to go to the last race of the season/ ALMS. Couple of questions, Since we did not do the Corvette corral at Sebring ( we did the Chateau Elan/ super ticket) is the Corvette corral the same as Sebring? hows the view of the race from the corral ? we've been to Road Atlanta several times but never to a race, so we know the layout of the track . And of coarse, who is going ? thanks for any suggestions !
It's pretty much the same set-up although the Corral is set more on a hill/slope than the flatness of Sebring. Same tent and set up inside. I don't think GM/Corvette Racing has actually released the race itinerary for the race for guest speakers, parade laps, etc, but I cannot imagine it changing much from years past.
PL/RA is far more tamer in terms of craziness(people) than Sebring.

The Corral has been just over the driver over bridge on the left as you enter the track. You can see 12 and the front stretch from the back side of the corral. 10A/B is on the other side of driving path from the corral which is where many of the Corvette owners setup their chairs.
Corral tickets would be nice to have as you can get drinks and any guest speakers or other events in the tent. It is on the grass and there is red Georgia clay so I'm sure some will complain about how dirty the car would get parking in the corral.
If you want corral tickets be sure to check when tickets go on sale, they can go quick.
My first PL was the 2004 and I got lucky on how I was parked in the corral, but yes there is some good ol' Georgia clay in spots.
In another PL topic someone was posting they wouldn't park their car in the corral due to how dirty it would get.
I never saw the big deal and some of the cleanest cars I know were out there. Haven't missed a PL yet, but haven't had a car to put in the Corral since '04? I usually drove the Corvette up Thurs. and Friday but the beater Honda on race day. I could drive around and park that thing anywhere on just about any dirt incline. PL has become so crowded I'd like to have a car to put in the Corral. Parking was such a pain 2 years ago I skipped on buying a parking pass last year. If I had a Corvette I'd leave the car in the Corral on race day.
Usually Thursday evening around 6p and limited to 100 cars or so.
I think they've kept it on Thursday but I'm not 100% sure. Thursday is night practice after parade laps. Great time to be at the track, you can hit a few corners to see the glowing rotors without the race day crowds. Sebring or PL my goal is to be in the track before night practice on Thursday.

Any car there is going to get dirty. Even at Sebring, the amount of dust is ridiculous. I laugh at newbies wiping thier car down every hour. You're fighting a losing battle.
I've always thought since GM/Mobil 1 took over the Corvette Corral that it is overpriced/expensive, but you can't really beat not having to park your vette in gp, and the amenities inside the tent and all.
we leave the vettes at the hotel and take a beater SUV into PL and park at Spectator Hill. I have always wondered why some owners (vette and non vette) would park anywhere - corral or not with the top down ... fascinating.

Very true, we were parkef at the Chateau for Sebring and it was nuts how dusty the car was ! I did see a couple of peaple wiping their cars down , but never touched ours, losing battle. if we end up going to PL, not even going to worry about the red clay, dust etc... just going to enjoy.
