Default Boone, NC?

Just found out today that I'm going to Boone NC for the weekend. Anything interesting to do on a rainy weekend there?

take a fun spirited drive on "the snake" highway 421. Really nice wide and shallow shoulder road with crazy switch backs. Dragon tail has a HUGE shoulder drop off where if ya miss the edge you will certainly know it and also too many bikers on the dragon hugging the center line making it dangerous. Done the snake 3 times with a group at some spirited speeds

On a rainy weekend? Hmmm...you could visit the Mast General Store. You could eat in the Daniel Boone restaurant. You could go to Linville Caverns. Most of the other things are good weather stuff like Grandfather Mountain, the New River Zoo, and the twisty mountain roads.

+1 for Mast General Store. Go to the one in nearby Valle Crucis.

Just got back home.
It wasn't worth the 10+ hours of driving up and back.
Mast store was ok.
$18/PERSON for Grandfather mountain-I don't think so.
Too wet and cold for hiking.
2G cell service occasionally.
Glad to be home

You came during ski season, not hiking season.

I've never figured the Grandfather Mountain thing out. Mt. Mitchell is the tallest mountain in the east, and free to go to. But GF Mountain they charge you.

There's plenty to do in that area, but you have to know where to go. You did go in Ski season. It's much better in June-August.
