I was at the Shelton Vineyard Corvette show Saturday and was talking to someone from Charlotte about the ZMax Dragway. He indicated that he thought there were test and tune days every Thursday. I emailed the dragway with the following message:
"Dear Sirs: Does the ZMax Dragway have regularly scheduled test and tune days? If so, what are the dates and times and admission cost for these sessions?"
Here is their reply:
"Thank you for your email. At this time, we do not have any test and tunes scheduled at zMAX Dragway. Please continue to check our website for any updates and times.
Have a great day!
Megan"
Any of you Charlotte members (or anyone else) know the correct story? I find it hard to believe that they do not have test and tune sessions.
Thanks for the compliment and the information about the car show. I noticed on the car show flyer that the judging is to be done according to NCSA Standards. I am not familiar with NCSA. Is this similar to NCCC?
I've been there several times and my daughter worked as an intern there a few years back. I'm always the 1st one to jump up and down about test and tune dates, but they just aren't doing them anymore. I can't for the life of me figure out way. It is such a collosal waist to have the best drag strip in the country and not utilize it. They should be doing t&t's at least one night a week and have a weekend bracket program, but they don't. It really pisses me off. As for the 1st day of the Power Tour I hope they do better than when we ended there last year. They didn't even give et slips and about after the 1st hour the tree went down and they were arm dropping cars from the line. It was laughable. It was great when we went to Memphis. They even had the scale open if you wanted it. The only bad part was it ended about 4:30 to 5:00 and it was really hot, but the track was well prepped and staffed. As for other 1/4 mile tracks there is also Atlanta Dragway, which is actually in Commerce,GA, and Carolina dragway that is near Aiken,SC it's called the "House of Hook". I haven't had a chance to run there yet. I'm hoping to get a group of Vettes together to go run at one of these tracks this year, but haven't had much feedback.
Are they even going to have the dragstrip open for runs???
I haven't found any info saying they were drag racing at Zmax during Power Tour. Hope they are.
BTW: cbernhardt, nice ride. I spoke with you for a bit at Sheltons.
Also, you won some award, but you had already gone.

I'm going to send an email to Zmax asking about runs, but I will be surprised if they answer it. I'll let you know. We did run there on the last full day of power tour, but it was a joke. Check out my earlier post.

Bill:
Enjoyed talking to you at the show. Glad to see so many from the Charlotte area in attendance. Don't know if you noticed the small quad copter "drone" taking aerial pictures, but some of them are posted on the RTP website: http://rtp-corvettes.com/?cat=20
Hey guys believe it or not I heard back from Zmax about running there on the 1st day of power tour and they said yes it would be available from 11-3 and we will get time slips this time. As far as I know this will be the only opportunity for street cars to run there the rest of this year. They will have a fall NHRA event, but no more chances for us street car guys. BTW just to remind everyone that this will be Sat June 7th so that is not this coming weekend, but the next one.

Charles,
Thanks for the link.
Thomas just found out that runs at Zmax would be happening.

Thomas,
Thanks for finding out about running at Zmax.
I expect we won't get many runs, but it should be fun.

I posted about Zmax in Rutherford County Corvettes FB page also. You should be able to make as many runs as you want because only a small group out of the entire show will even want to make passes.
That place is a waste of time. They aren't capable (lack the know-how) of properly preparing the track when NHRA isn't there doing it for them. That has been their downfall every time they have opened that place. It's the same story for the dirt track right beside it...
I asked our contact in the Events department at ZMax and she said the reason for no more Test & Tunes is because they haven't been able to secure a sponsor for them.
Also heard that Keen dropped out of sponsoring the Dale Jr Corvette show in Mooresville...
Well #Zmax yesterday was pretty much what everyone said here about it, but the crew were great, very helpful and nice. It wasn't their fault. It was mid 90's most all day and the track temps were definitely up there. They swept and drug it, but didn't put down any traction compound. How much of a difference that may have made I don't know for sure, but my last local 1/8th pass was a 7.0 with a 1.75 60'. My best 1/8th mile time there yesterday was a 7.5 with a 2.00 60'. The 7.0 temps were mid 70's so 20 more degrees of temp makes a difference. At least I got some 1/4 mile speeds to figure with. Most of them were 128mph and my best et was a 11.3. Not trying to make excuses, everyone else there was dealing with the same thing, that's just how it was.
