I live in Virginia, but I have sold my C7 to someone in Florida. Does anyone know what he needs to do to get Temporary tags in Florida for him to drive the car from Virginia to Florida? I have been searching the Florida DMV and it doesnt seem to be as simple as Virginia's temporary tag.

Thanks

The easiest thing would be to let him use your plate and send it back to you when he gets home. A Florida resident cannot get a temp tag for a private sale. It's possible VA would issue him one, FL will do that for out of state purchasers.

If you are a Florida resident and purchased a vehicle through a private sale, you cannot apply for a temporary tag. You and the current owner need to go to the local tax collector's office and transfer the title to your name and purchase registration in your name.

mail him the title. then he can go to the DMV, transfer the car into his name and get or transfer a tag to the car to drive it from virginia. all legal. that way if he gets into an accident, you won't get the bill if you let him drive with your tag.

I bought a truck in PA drove it back to FL and even got pulled over on the way home. he will need the title ,the bill of sale from you , and he will have to have insurance on it with proof on him. Killa is right with those 3 things and 48hrs to get home and tag it

I bought an 82 Vette from NJ and paid in full. I received the title prior to pick up and got my temp tag from FL before flying to NJ to drive the car back. Not sure how it works if the new owner will not have access to the title.

Thanks everyone. We were able to drive to the Va DMV and we picked him up 2 -3 day tags for a total of 6 days. It cost him $5 per tag. And he will enjoy his drive back to Florida. Thanks everyone for the tips.
