Default Amelia Island

My brother , son and I are going to Amelia Island for the concour next March. Flying into Jacksonville. I am looking for advice on where to stay--can be cheap, but clean (wives not coming), events on Amelia Island, event parking and restaurants. We figured to stay in Jacksonville or between Jacksonville and Amelia. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you stay right near the airport there are some decent places. Otherwise I would try to find something in the Fernandina Beach or Yulee area.

Fernandina Beach has numerous hotels not too far from Amelia. Driving from Jacksonville will be a haul if doing it for more than a day or two. We've stayed at the Residence Inn, but there are also lessor priced chains within a block or two. All just 2 or 3 blocks from the beach for your spare time. Stay away from Sliders unless its just for drinks, has a nice view but the food is horrible. Downtown Fernandina has some good restaurants and cool shopping if the wife is along.
