Had a BLAST at Road Atlanta today (well except for a certain mini-Cooper truch mucking thing up, read slow, until the final run). I can see what the fuss is all about :)
Nice to see some new faces and some "old". Thanks to Lamar for riding along and giving me some tips. And thanks to Savewave for organizing the pictures!
I will be there for the next track day, November I think, stepping up to "B" Group so watch out :smash: :smash:
Optic - if you weren't such a puss I would say come out and join the fun, but you don't like to lose, do you?
What a blast!!!! It was great seeing so many Forum Members there!!!
Going in to this, I was somewhat reluctant. I thought the Touring Class would be a little lame, but those pacecar drivers were pretty cool about moving things quickly through the course. During the third track session, the pacecar driver had sat at our table for lunch & knew we had a 427. When it was our turn behind him, he really opened it up. Afterward, he said he ran that loop at a much faster pace, so we could enjoy our 427 more! What a guy!!! :D :D :D
We will be going back November. If we can resolve the rollbar issue, we will run in the Intermediate Group.
Yep, believe that was me in front of you for a time that last time out (in the silver Z06). Your car runs sweet, hope you can get a roll bar that will look good and let you run in Intermediate. And I agree about the instructors - they were all great.
Savewave told me the mini was pretty fast in the turns, just nothing on the straights, and there was actually another car in that group that was even slower, but I don't remember what it was.
Yep that was me - you hung in there great! Every time I looked in the mirror you were right on top of me, it was great to be pushed a bit - you can definitely drive.
The SVT Focus was a nice guy, I ended up behind him in the pit and he suggested I pull around so he wouldn't slow me up, that is when I pulled up in front of you so I could run in a faster group. A Corvette only group would have been a blast, actually that is what I was trying to do for that last run but miscounted cars or something - oh well next time.
Hope to see you in November - stay well! :yesnod: :yesnod:
I had a great time shooting everyone out at the track :yesnod: I think I got a shot of everybody at one time or another being held up by the mini     :yesnod:
I did catch some great images of everyone on the track :yesnod:   :D
A big "THANKYOU" goes out to savewave for getting everthing together and making my shooting job a little less stressfull :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
I had a blast meeting all of you, see ya soon!!!!!
Larry   :yesnod: :D  :)
I had an awesome time too! Having such a great Forum turnout was very cool. It is amazing how Corvettes are almost always the most-represented car at these events.
Anyway, I felt great about my driving progress and even better about driving the car home undamaged.
One observation: midway through the event my brake pedal got longer. I didn't have fade -- the brakes were working great. I have read about this before and I believe it may be caused by expansion in the brake lines -- probably would have been prevented by stainless steel cables. Anyone else experience this?
Hey all... yeah that was a blast! I can't say enough about theses cars and how well they perform bone-stock. Too bad about those four wrecks... those were some very expensive cars! I feel lucky that I got a great group: two c5's, a three-day-old clk430 sport (guy could drive), and a lexus is-300... not too fast of the straights but held his own in the turns... I think we had one of that faster groups... anyway I had a blast.
After the first session the guys in the lexus asked me "so's that a built small block in there?" me: "No it's completely stock." them: "Dang, well it sounds awesome. I guess they're just used to a lexus =) ( I think stock c5's sound crappy)
Hopefully we can get a rollbar issue resolved and to B group in November... or take out our Ford econoline van!!! yeah baby
Good to see everybody yesterday! We had quite a turnout and I look forward to the numbers increasing in November. The best day at the track is a day that involves leaving in ONE piece, and everybody in our group did that!
It is amazing at how much faster and better you get with more seat time. Like Gen X said, you can truely see your progress. I know that I have never had sooo much fun in any car.
Track Days at RA rocks! :yesnod:
WOW - What a great weekend!! I agree with Sully, the Touring group was faster than I had expected too, but I was running just behind him in what appeared to be "the fast group". Well, we did pass another entire group. Anyway, what a thrill. Coming home today, we took 2 lane roads all the way, and I'll have to say the experience at RA improved my driving. I look at curves a little differently now.
And guess what - as we coming down AL 27, about 1/2 mile from the turn off to our house, a large buck JUMPED COMPLETLY OVER OUR CAR!! We saw him as he was over the hood, about even with the car top, and actually DRAGGED HIS HOOFS across the top!! No damage, just a litle tap. Talk about a exciting end to a perfect weekend!
Until next time.

OMG You are very lucky!!! :yesnod: :yesnod: Back in 1982 we had the same thing happen to us in our new Vette, only he landed on the hood. $4000 damage!
Sure wish I could've made this one!! I haven't checked the Rd. ATL schedule for November, but when is it you are all planning on going? B Group for everyone? That's the group I run in when I can go.
SURE GLAD to hear that the Carter Vette is still in good shape after the near-deer miss!!! Whew!!!
