Hey gang,
My boss keeps suggesting that I move to Florida to expand company interests in that area. He originally thought moving to Orlando would be best, but it looks like there is more of a market in the Miami area. I am looking for a decent place to live somewhere in between. Can anyone offer suggetions? I would prefer something a fair distance from major metropolitan areas, and we would also like to avoid "spring break" areas as much as possible. My wife and I are 23, and we are also trying to find a job for her in the same area. She is a chemist. We have only been to Florida a few times, so we are not really sure where to begin looking. Can anyone offer suggestions? We are open to buying or renting a home, condo, or something along those lines. I would REALLY like a garage to keep the car protected. Can anyone offer suggestions? TIA,

Research the area. One of the fastest growing areas.. Real estate is low right now but it will continue to sky rocket as people migrate from BOCA,MIAMI, DELRAY ETC
I live in Port Saint Lucie, and its a nice central area. Close to the touristy stuff in Orlando, races in Daytona, and the Lauderdale and Miami chaos, but far enough away too.
Comuting to West Palm isn't bad either, with both the turnpike, and I-95 handy, takes me 45ish minutes.
:seeya:WESTERN BROWARD is where you want to be!! Far enough far Miami but close enough to the action..only 30-40 minutes ...all expressway.:D
I've already transplanted 2 CF members from up north and they couldn't be happier. Don't waste yor time with Real estate agents ..their all vipers!! :yesnod:
Give me an e-mail and I will take the mystery and grief out of the move..I've been here 15 years from New York..Been there.. and done that. I can save you ALOT of time if your more specific...:D

I'm moving to Port St. Lucie in 3 weeks. Got a nice place for little money WITH DOUBLE GARAGE. There's lots of recreation, and nice people, and the Turnpike and I-95 are both handy.
i live in a suburb of west palm beach, it is very nice and for the young crowd there is much to do and see. kids will be safe as will your wife. jobs are here also. vettes are plentyful as are good wrenches if needed. also if you like to race or watch, moroso raceway park is here.

Re: Moving to Southern Florida??? (Last Ride)
Considering the travel you'll be doing and trying to get your wife a job in her field, I'd start my search in the Jupiter area and look as far north as Port St. Lucie, south to Palm Beach Gardens. Check out the Abacoa development just south of Jupiter off I-95 for starters. If you end up looking in St Lucie County, Port St. Lucie and St Lucie West are the only areas you'd want to consider there.
I've been in Florida since '72, having lived in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach County, Ft. Pierce, Vero Beach and Sanibel Island. Vero is a place you'd fall in love with but your wife would have a tough time finding her work and the place is extremely expensive.
Depending on your client base and your anticipated travel schedule, If maybe half your activity is going to be in the Orlando area I'd give that region serious consideration also.
If I had to guess, I think one of them northern transplants was me! Company moved me into corporate housing in Weston (with garage) and we ended up buying a home in Parkland (one of the areas suggested by vstella). A lot of car action down here. C5s, Porsche, Ferrari, etc. prowling the pavement. Come down, drive around, and spend some time looking around.
As per vstella's recommendation, if you are interested in Broward County, check out the north western corner. Good luck and keep us posted!
Follow the above suggestions of avoiding Miami itself. I live in Miami and it is an overcrowded zoo. West Broward and north much better choice. Plus insurance for a 20 something vette driver might be more than your mortgage payment....
