Default Florida Gulf Coast Location Help Needed.........

OK, so we are seriously looking to move from SW TN to the West Coast of Central FL.

Been looking at Venice and had started a thread about it a while back. From all appearances and info received, the Venice area looks great with beaches, water, shopping nearby, restaurants, very low crime, and so on, But.......

From what I can tell, it may not be what I am looking for, and here's why.

I would REALLY prefer to be on a canal, where I can have my boat docked at my own dock, etc. I am not looking to pay for marina docking by the foot or that sort of thing. Unless I am missing something, Venice doesn't offer that.

Can anyone who knows the area chime in and either tell me I am right, wrong, whatever. and if I am correct, maybe recommend a SMALL town/city that I can do this?

Must, Must, Must be low crime, upper middle income (no white or black trash) with nearby amenities for the wife.

Try a bit further south, Punta Gorda and surrounding areas. Lots of canal front properties with open water access.

Venice, Sarasota and other areas are great. I live in Manatee County and I am a Realtor in the area. Let me know what you need, I can help!

Cape Coral has the most canals of any city in the US I believe.

But, you should be able to find that property type anywhere from Pasco county down to Collier.

I am in Cape Coral - on a tidal canal - boat lift. Didn't know the area too much before we bought. Nice area with lots of amenities. I am about a 40 minute idle ride to the gulf through the canal system. Even the 40 minutes is ok since you are passing nice housing all the way. You can get closer, or farther, depending on the depth of your pocketbook. I would recommend getting something now as prices are increasing at an increasing level. Since I mentioned tidal canal be aware that some parts of communities have fresh water canals and naturally have no access to the Caloosahatchie or Gulf

Bradenton, just north of Sarasota has a number of developments that are built on canals.

Just be advised the building craze has hit Florida again.
