Anybody have experience in NC getting state emissions inspection. Thinking about putting on an Xpipe sans secondary cats. Seems like there are a lot of folks around the country modifying their exhaust systems. Thanks
I've never had any problems but then again, each county can have different testing procedures. The county that I live in just changed in the last two years and does not do any exhaust "sniffing".
I was at my dealer in Raleigh getting another vehicle serviced and asked the service manager. He was pretty firm that removing secondary cats with an X-pipe would not pass. I inquired about how some folks get by with these mods and he said they probably know someone to get the pass.
Not sure on your county. In mine they never did any sniffing tests. They only connected to the data link. They only checked for codes. Last year the county done away with the emission part, only safety inspection as of 2019. Next county still has the emission tests.
Saying all of that could a tuner be able to program the ecm to where no codes would show???
Actually the secondary cats are not monitored by the ECM. NC Emissions is the OBD II hookup looking for codes or if all the sensors have been reset. The visual inspection is where I would fail in Wake County. Kind of sux that the larger metropolitan areas require this.
