Looking to relocate to south Alabama. Theodore appears to be a location that has most of what we are looking for. Is there a Corvette club in the vicinity? Is the city/town of Theodore a good place to move? I thought I would post in this section, and hope to receive information about Theodore or suggestions for other areas to relocate. I would appreciate any information that a fellow Vette owner is willing share. Thanks in advance. Ron Cousins
Although I live in Pensacola, I travel often to the Southern Alabama area, its so much nicer than the Florida Panhandle area. Theodore is on the west side of Mobile Bay, just past Tilmans Corner. Is there a specific reason why you are looking at Theodore, perhaps work commute?
The real nice areas of Southern Alabama are on the East Side of Mobile Bay, specifically the Baldwin County area. I am looking to relocating to that area as soon as I sell my current home. You really must come over and drive around the area to really appreciate how nice it is. One item I notice right away is the friendliness of the people compared to the Pensacola area. If your touring the area, a drive south on 59 takes you through several small towns and an incredibly beautiful beach area, some of the nicest in the South.
There is a substantial number of car enthusiast in this area, primarily classic cars with the country’s largest classic car event just a few miles west. There are two Corvette clubs in the immediate area but unfortunately, they are not active. There is a club in Pensacola and a club in Mississippi that are regularly active. I have a friend who has lived in that area for over 6 years, he just purchased his first vette, he would be a good source of information.
Thank you very much for your prompt reply! To answer your question concerning the move to So. Alabama; we currently live in KY and visit So. AL frequently, so we are quite familiar with the area. My wife retires this month and is determined to move to an area nearer the ocean. We are originally from Maine, and I think she misses the ocean , but not the cold winters of the Northeast. We have a motor home, and use it to visit Foley, AL often. Theodore is close to the ocean, and seems to have some reasonable real estate values. We presently own a 2010 GS convertible and we are fairly active in the Corvette club here in Elizabethtown, so an active Corvette club in the area would be an attraction, but is not a deal breaker. Again, I appreciate your information, and if you or someone you know would like to chat via phone or e-mail, I would like to hear from them - agree on the friendliness of the people in AL.

Ron,
I will forward your contact information to my friend in Daphne, AL, you guys will have MUCH to talk about!
He just purchased a 2010 GS Convertible last month, it is an immaculate Garage Queen example, 1 owner with only 12k miles. It's in a rare yet favorite color combo of mine that I was unable to find in a 2013 / 427, Cyber Metallic Gray with a light gray rag top.
Thank you for the reply and your insight into talking Corvettes with your friend. I will be looking forward to it ! And, you know all too well what it is like when Vette "nuts" get around to talking about their favorite play toy? We have always enjoyed our Corvettes starting with a 1993, then a 2000, 2002, 2003 Z06 and the latest, the 2010. Your quest for your friend's color combo for your car seems like a popular combination. I know frustrating it is to search for a particular color and then once located , discover that something was wrong with the car. I looked for the color combo of our 2010 - crystal red with oak top and interior. It is not that rare, but rather scarce. Again my thanks for forwarding the info to your friend!

I have not received an e-mail fro your friend, as of yet. If you are in contact with him again, ask him to contact me by phone and we will go from there. PH. # 270-769-9313. BTW, have you given any more consideration to relocating to AL (Baldwin County area)? I recall you mentioning it previously as a possible future move. I have to have minor back surgery on the 5th of August, so house hunting is sort of been put on hold for the time being, but south AL looks like the location as opposed to the Panhandle region. I hope you are enjoying the great weather in your beautiful Vette. One of the club members here in KY has a car like yours, and it certainly stands out among the others. Thank you again for contacting your friend, and I hope we can "touch base" in the near future. Stay safe!

I will pass your number to him, most likely at the next and last weekend club cruise in I will go to.
I know that most of the people who are club members and attend these events are basically nice people who like to share their passion. However, I am having an issue with a few who for some reason feel that in a car enthusiast world a woman’s place is in the passenger seat.
I am tired of simple conversations that eventually turn into arguments due to a difference of opinion or the assumption that I should know less about cars and high performance driving simply because I have no *********.
As for the relocation to Alabama and Baldwin County, it is still an option I am deeply considering. You are making a good decision, teh South AL area is really nice compared to Pensacola
Thank you for allowing me to vent...
Good luck with your back surgery and stay safe always.
Thank you for your good wishes concerning surgery; it is appreciated. I understand where you are coming from when you mention the not-so-subtle and outright disdain for women and how they relate to cars in general , and Corvettes specifically. In my world, there is, and always has been, an acceptance and admiration for both male and females as it relates to the world we all share. I don't understand, (yes I really do understand) why male testosterone has to contribute to such an obvious, and sometimes overwhelming display of ignorance and lack of compassion and respect for others. On behalf of my male counterparts, I apologize and regret that you had/have to experience such displays. I have a feeling, however, that you are able to sift through the chaff and find the good in people. I didn't mean to "meander", but it really irks me to no end to witness these behaviors. Stay strong and resolute (I'm sure you are), I enjoy reading your well thought-out and concise posts on the Forum, and feel free to rant anytime!
Hate to use this as a semi-private message path but I have PM's disabled, Bronk, I just learned my friends wife has been dealing with major non-Covid medical issues, may explain why he has not contacted you, stay safe...

Thank you for your response. I don't mind the "path", if it will serve the purpose. And, I completely understand with medical issues (back surgery this A.M. in Louisville!) Also, pleased to hear that her conditions don't involve Covid. Please convey my best wishes to him for his wife's complete and speedy recovery. We will touch base sooner or later - looking forward to it! Stay safe, and thanks again!
I have a friend who lives in Baldwin County, Daphne / Spanish Fort area. I was at his house on Friday morning last week to bring him a generator I was not using. Besides damage from large falling trees on houses and other immovable objects, the general area did fine for just experiencing the core of a CAT 2 hurricane as it made landfall in Gulf Shores. Some area’s I have seen seem to have fared much better than area’s in Pensacola that were dealing with storm surge related flood waters. Of course, a CAT 3 would have been different, I was in this area in 2004 when Ivan came knocking. 2 hurricanes over a 16-year period, I would say that is LOW/MED Risk in the hurricane department.
From what I was told today most residents in the area have their power restored already, my friends’ power was restored Sunday morning.
Good luck and stay safe for those still dealing with the mess from Sally.
Thank you for the update on the Baldwin County area. I guess just about anywhere along the coastal FL. AL area is not exempt from severe storm related damage, especially during hurricane "season". Pleased to learn you and your friend did not experience any adverse effects from Sally. Stay safe and best wishes for speedy recovery to those impacted.
The MS Gulf Coast Corvette Club over in Biloxi is only about 30 min-1hr from ya. They meet the last Thursday of the month at Ray Brandt Chevrolet @ 6pm. Members get discounts on parts and service on their Vettes. The club also puts on the annual Vettes by the Shore car show every year at Edgewater Mall. Check ‘em out on FB and their website.

Hi Ron,
Hope you and yours had a nice Christmas!
I have been absent in this forum for a few months after parking the 427 for a while and purchasing another BMW M2, this round I picked up a very low mileage 2019 M2 Competition that I will use for HPDE in 2021 Have you made the move to Alabama yet? My friend who has the 2010 Cyber Grey Grand Sport is still dealing with his wife's health issues, so he probably has yet to contact you.
Hoping 2021 will be better for everyone, take care and keep in touch!
It was great hearing from you ! I missed seeing your posts and reading your thoughts and ideas concerning the C6. It sounds as though your BMW will serve your needs for competing in your car related exploits. I was sorry to hear about your friend's wife and her ongoing medical issues. I completely understand that he has priorities, and corresponding is lower on his list. Give him my best wishes when you get the opportunity. Christmas was different this year for a lot of reasons; the virus played to be a real downer - no get-togethers with family and friends, etc. Similarly with Thanksgiving and New Years. No, the move has been put on hold for the immediate future - it would take multiple pages for me to explain, so I wouldn't bore you with the details. Again, it was good to learn that you are OK and safe from all this craziness. All my best, Ron Cousins
