There are quite a few forum members in the greater Miami area... and there are hardly any events...
Miami Dave tried to start a club.. but he hasn't showed up at the Tower Shops recently...
Come on guys.. lets have some Corvette meetings or events.. What about meeting once a month on a weekend at Hooters for lunch etc...
Any suggestions???
I agree. Miami is probably one of the highest concentrations of Corvettes in the country, but probably the most disorganized bunch. :mad
There is a "Sunshine Corvette club" in Miami. They have a website but their Calendar of events is for members only! How can you become a member if you don't know where they are?
You would think with as many Vettes as you see at the tower shops etc. there would be many more events etc.
I would suggest a Key Biscayne cruise or an Old cutler road cruise or It would be cool to drive through Coconut grove in a Vette caravan. Of course all these could be tied in to one big cruise. Start, say, at the Cutler Ridge mall (ugly but a good place with a big parking lot) run up Old Cutler, through the grove and end up at Sundays on Key Biscayne for lunch (Big parking lot).
A good Saturday or Sunday Cruise would be to meet EARLY in the Walmart parking lot at the west end of Kendall and go north on Krome ave to US 27. Stop at Holiday park stretch out and drive back on 75. This could be extended greatly by keeping going north on 27 about 50 miles and having breakfast or lunch in South bay then turning back.
Notice my pet peeve is "big parking lot". I have a psychotic hate for door dings.
One of the problems is that there are a few smaller clubs.. They do their own stuff.. so hardly many Vettes get together.. I personally don't want to join any club.. Clubs that you join by default are ok... I don't think that you have to be in a club to meet with other Vette enthusiats... Would be so cool if we would have regular events like cruises and Hooters meetings... It works in Central Florida (Misfits).... why shouldn't it work in South Florida???
I think that maybe a more central location would be better for a meeting/cruise to attract more people.. Vette guys are scattered withing the 3 counties (Dade, Broward and Palm Beach)... and South Miami would be quite a trip for somebody coming from North Broward or Palm Beach county...
I personally live in Miami Beach.. which isn't all that far from the Grove and South Miami...

I, along with my friend Luis, are going to the next meeting of Vettes of the Tropics. They meet in Fort Lauderdale.
I have met a few of their members, and they seem quite nice.
I am in agreement on the "lameness" of local Vette owners. Either they are the laziest bunch, or the busiest.
I suggested in a previous post getting together after the Tower Shops on Friday night and going to Round-Up... a country-western bar offering FREE DRAFT BEER until midnight, after a $4 cover charge. It's only minutes away from the show. No one took me up on that one, which was quite a shocker.
I would like to get together for lunch as Olivier suggested, or Hooters, or....
Let's just do something. ART DECO WEEKEND on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach...
January 17-19... I've gone the past 2 years, and it's a lot of fun with large crowds, lots of food to eat, and even some antique cars on display.
Where else can you go to a street fair in the middle of the winter ?
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.... and see you Friday night at the Tower Shops !
P.S. Michael (ZO6-Nomad)... plan ahead and bring a heavier jacket for the Mrs. so she won't have to spend half the night in your car !!!

Alan,
Probably will miss Tower shops again! I got an e-mail from the guys that put on the trackdays. It seems some racing team cancelled their Jan 4 date at Homestead, and they offered it to the trackday people. Even though I just got my "Fix" at Sebring, it's hard to turn down a 60-70 degree day at such a nice track, knowing that we will all be sweating our ***** off for 9 months starting in a month or two. So I'll probably switch from street trim to track trim on Friday night and miss the tower shops so I can :steering: at the track.
As far as a "central location", I thought you were talking about *Miami* Vettes. The Tower Shops are quite far from where I live, but I drive there anyway. If we have a *Miami* event, they should drive down here. It doesn't make any sense to me to drive to Broward for a Miami event. The thing is to make it easy for them by meeting in a place close to a major North-South artery. If you have a good enough cruise planned, people will drive from where ever... Nicht War?

Been there, done that...Your right!! I've scheduled many outings and events with limited success..good luck!!..
I think that we would have more success under the umbrella of a larger organization...(FL Misfits). The Misfits are probably the largest "free" Vette Club in FL... What about establishing the Misfits in South Florida...
I think that I'll have to get some mailing lists and start spamming :spam :spam :jester :jester
Re: South Florida Vette guys.. (Electron Blue '02)
I think the word I'm looking for is "apathetic". It is so hard to generate genuine interest for something as simple as getting together for a beer and a burger!
The weather is now perfect for the next few month, the holidays are coming to an end, etc. so us SO FLA folks should do some more things.

Alan, like I mentioned to you at the Tower Shops last Friday nite, I joined Vettes of the Tropics a couple of months ago. They are all really nice people, and at the past couple of meetings we we putting together ideas and plans for day cruises, sunday brunch runs, etc. That would be GREAT if you and Luis would join
All can get together for a cruise once a month to the Florida Corvette Challenge races at Bradenton! Great time and you get to see how that vette runs on the dragstrip :D

It's difficult to get a few people for local cruises and meeting.. imagine how difficult it would be to get them to drive over 200 miles for a event... :( :(

No, but I will be going to the NCRS meet in Orlando on Jan. 24.
It's a nice show and swap meet.
Luis and I are sharing a suite, which is large enough for another guy. We are staying over Friday night and leaving for home on Saturday night. You're welcome to share if you like (or maybe someone else ?).

Depends on the weather forecast.. If there's no rain in the forecast and nothing unexpected happens... I'll be there...

Alan,
I don't think that too many people would come out to South Beach.. I personally live 3 miles north of South Beach.. but I try to avoid South Beach.. There are no parking spaces - exept if you are willing to pay $20... I'm not going to pay $20 to park my car... I think that a better choice would be a place with plenty of free space to park our cars...

The mention of Art Deco Weekend was because I go there every year, and wanted to let others know about it. We used to pay $10 to park, and last year it went to $15. This year ??? See you guys tomorrow night at the Tower Shops... it's supposed to rain tonight, and then stop tomorrow in the early afternoon, if the forecast is correct.
Re: South Florida Vette guys.. (Electron Blue '02)
Alan,
Thanks for the invite to Orlando. Thinking about going to the BMW Winterfest at Sebring that weekend. They have a "safety school" on Friday 24 that I don't want to miss. It's one of those wet skidpad things where you REALLY learn car control at AND past the limit (not to mention it's massive amounts of fun). They also have track days with instructors which are SCCA racers.
Anyway, if you get bored this weekend Sat. the 4th, come by the Homestead Motor Speedway and watch us track people burn 5000 miles worth of tire life and 10,000 miles of brake linings in a couple of hours. It's free and educational. Bring as many cars/people as you want. Just drive around the BACK of the stadium and mention the name of Steve Nix (the promoter) and they will wave you in. It is a BEAUTIFUL facility and you get to walk around anywhere you want. The weather is supposed to be beautiful 50-65. From 11 am to about 3 pm is when the most cars are out.

Hi Michael...
Seems like our schedules are always in conflict
This Saturday I plan to go to the Kruse car auction in Fort Lauderdale.
I don't plan on buying anything, but it's fun to watch the auction and try to predict final price. Also a good place to try and make new contacts.
Have a ball racing !
Alan

Well - it was raining this morning - so I didn't take one of the Vettes to work... Therefore - I won't be at the Tower Shops.. It's just too far from my place...
