Default Moving to NC

So it looks like work may be taking me to North Carolina. I’m currently in Florida. My 13 grandsport has an ecs blower, long tube headers, after market cam and tuned. Florida doesn’t care about any of that. How much trouble am I going to have in NC with state inspections. I’ve been told just sell it and I’ve been told to just move to a county that doesn’t do emissions and I will be fine. Any advice

What city will you be working in? It is true that some counties have emissions inspections and some don't. The less populated areas do not have any emissions inspection only a $13 safety inspection

https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/title-regi...spections.aspx

That link shows the 19 counties that require admissions inspection.

Let us know what area you'll be working in we can make some recommendations.

What Fire said above. I have a C5 A&A kit headers tune and no issues - actually the guys at Jiffy Lube let me stand with them and open and close the hood (aftermarket- the one I go to is very accommodating...

And Welcome to NC - I'm a NJ transplant 19 years ago - love it here!

I install lights and sirens equipment into police cars. I’m looking at working in benson but living in Nash county. I really don’t want to sell my car and it would kill me to demod it so I’ll check into the counties on that list and see what’s near my potential job site. State tax is going to kill me.

If it has been tuned correctly you should not have any problems, we have the same inspection requirements here in communist NJ and they all pass. Good luck with the move!

I live in an NC county that is listed as testing emissions. All they do is check for error codes in the ECM. There is no tailpipe check for emissions.

that’s cool, i don’t have rear o2s they are tuned out. As long as those don’t show up on their scan then I will hopefully be ok.

Actually in 19 counties in NC they still do emissions testing. All other counties is a simple safety inspection for $13.

See link above.

I have an ECS supercharger and am in Wake County where the check emissions. Never had any trouble. All they do is plug into the port to look for codes. No codes and you pass.

You will be fine. there are many clubs and Cars and coffees here with vettes.

Some counties dont inspect, some do. Some counties charge 13.50 and some 29.00 bucks/year.. Wake County is 29. If you have tinting its an extra 10 bucks. not sure why tinting needs to be done every year.

Also let me re-iterate. the counties that are charging 29 bucks are "emissions and safety check" so to speak.

the counties that are 13.50 are safety check only.. NO emission check.
