We live east county near Sarasota and Debby dumped more rain inland in early August than Helene did this week. However, our barrier islands (Siesta Key, Longboat key, Lido Beach/St. Armand's Circle, and Anna Maria had horrific storm surge flooding yesterday from Helene. Many neighborhoods near the Manatee River also experienced flooding.

To see the amount of devastation is heartbreaking, but, the way everyone has pulled together is inspiring. We live a few miles from the Hickory airport and it sounds like a full-time, active airport with all the small private planes and helicopters moving in and out ferrying supplies to the devastated region. (Almost reminds me of Ft Rucker with all the helicopter traffic.
