Normally, the fall cruise is the big one and the spring is much smaller. There is interest from a local F-Body group to combine the spring cruise with them, even if it's only once. (I also have heard from a Mustang guy that wants to do an "American Iron" cruise...) Anyway, I think that doing a combined Y & F Body cruise would be a nice change of pace. What do you all think?
From: Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: Spring Skyline 2004 Poll (Jim Strathearn)
I say let's do it for the Spring Cruise. Nothing against f-bodies, I like them a lot, but I think we should keep at least the Fall cruise all Corvettes.
What about the two Camaro's that followed us around fall skyline? and even got in on the group shot. :leaving: I think not allowing F-bodies along is like not inviting your cousins to the family reunion, and would just perpetuate the stereotype amongst the F bodies that we Corvette owners are a bunch of snobs :leaving:
The red F-Body was John. He's been coming to this cruise for years. (We used to make him bring the donuts so he could ride with us...) :yesnod:  He's a member of the forum so I really don't have a problem with him riding along. The other car was the guy in charge of the F-Body spring cruise. He came along at my invitation. And don't forget about the occasional Harley... We have a history of having some non-Corvettes from time to time.
My reasoning for joining forces with one cruise and not the other is primarily the size of the group. 115 cars is a lot to plan for. I can't imagine planning a cruise for 200+ cars especially when I live 150 miles away from the cruise point! (Although, having the F-Body guys wiould also provide their planing assistance...) But our spring cruise rarely draws more then 50 cars so I think that we could do a joint cruise in the spring.
BTW, there were laughs all around when I told those guys that the "imports" had to ride in the back! :auto: :steering: :seeya
These Skyline Drive events ( Spring and Fall ) have been exclusively for Corvettes. It's not a snob thing either. Different auto enthusiast could also organize simular events.
Having a different event with all American Muscle would probably be something everybody would like to see. :grouphug:

:iagree: I just wanted to clarify my statements above. I certainly wasn't complaining about the two Camaros showing up. Maybe a better way to put it would have been to say that the Fall cruise at least should stay an all Corvette Forum event.
Being a former member of the FBODY MAFBA, I will have to say keep it all Corvettes. I have had several bad experiences with people with Camaros who think there mission in life is to burn rubber, and race on public streets. I had one jerk in an orange 69 who had street slicks on, parked in a lot with small rocks (sticking to his wheels). When we went to leave, got on black top, I was about 6 feet behind him, he decides do do a burnout. As a result I got several rock chips on the front of my SS. In addition, this idiot decides he can take curves up the montain doing about 60, almost broadsided me, then when we parked charges over to me challenging me to a fist fight for passing this idiot on straightline because of his idiot driving. I walked away.
It has left a very bad tast in my mouth. I was one of the orinigial people who organized the F-Body Gatherings in Atlanta, and the cruises up the Skyline drive for all F-Body's. Trust me when I say, this is a bad idea, as (not all) but many have different ideas then we do. Besides most think we are stuck up Yuppies, with our heads up our butts.....that is a quote from many of these people......sorry but I have to say no....accident waiting to happen.
In that case you should not come, Some of us Vette drivers are jerks too. Next time you don't like a persons attitude or driving habits, you should stay away from them instead of getting into two incidents with them. :boxing
With all due respect Yellow Jacket, I am not complaining about putting down rubber, or even driving fast...to each his or her's own. My point was consideration. I have never had a single incident in all my time with both Camaro's, or Corvettes, except from that on incident. I don't think a Corvette driver would burn out while somebody was directly behind them after leaving a rock filled parking lot...its all a matter of consideration, and I found many F-body people lacked that more then the Vette people. Sorry you disagree, but we all can't agree can we.
Appears things are heating up. Keep the event strickly Corvette.......case closed! The numbers doesn't really matter its the quality of the enthusiast that do show.

:iagree:
Fbodies will keep showing up in the pics.
I like to get pics with all vettes in them.
I have nothing against fbodies...however I wouldn't own one.
I just want to take pictures with all vettes.
I think it is cool to see pic with a line of vettes as far as the eye can see.
Sprinkle in other cars and it sorta ruins the effect...for me anyway.

Evidently, John's F-Body group holds a spring cruise. The guy who normally runs their cruise sold his car and will no longer be running it. John asked if he could bring along the new guy that will be running their spring cruise so he could get some ideas and I said that was fine. I get the impression that they are looking for some ideas and frankly, I'm flattered that they would choose our cruise as an example of what they are looking for. I met with them during lunch at Brookside and suggested combining the spring cruise, even if just this one time. They thought that was a good idea.
What does this do for out cruise? Well, it's quite a job trying to keep the cruise "fresh". Not too many people want to do the exact same things over and over. Although I can always get help on the day of the cruise, getting planing help is another story. We used to make scouting runs, etc. But people get things to do and other priorities, etc., which is perfectly understandable. That leaves me and Farmer with somewhat little input at times. I thought that doing a cruise with a completely different group might introduce some fresh ideas to us. Maybe I'm wrong - don't know. But that's the story.
As an example of planing problems associated with this cruise, consider the following:
This cruise was our largest in terms of participation. (116 - I forgot to count me!)
This cruise was the first time we entered the park as one solid group.
This cruise generated almost no chatter on the forum prior to the cruise.
This cruise produced the fewest pics and post cruise posts of any recent fall cruise.
This cruise was favorably reviewed by many people. (This was the first cruise in a long time that I got 99.9% good reviews the day of the cruise! So where's the pics and chatter?)
What the above means is that I have no idea how many to plan for, where we will all fit, how many will be purchasing lunch, what people think, what they want, what route will work the best for us, etc. Couple that with the fact that I have to plan things in advance (such as routes, lunch, goodie bags, door prizes, etc.) and I hope you can understand my reasoning for looking for fresh ideas... As added clarification - I really enjoy doing these cruises and this is in no way a form of complaint. I look forward to both cruises each year will hopefully have the opportunity to do them for quite some time. But the planning of it could use some help; even if it's just some fresh ideas from our cousins...
I value everyone's opinion. But we have a core group that shows up for every cruise; snow, fog, rain - northing's a problem for those people. I want those people to e-mail me and tell me what their opinion of this is.
Have I rambled long enough?
BTW - I have a new route planned for next year...
Try it Jim.............Jerk drivers are just that...............the make doesn't matter!
We have had a few tag along F bodies in the past anyway, right Mike:yesnod:
What about B bodies :jester
My 96 Impala SS...........you know a "Police" escort vehicle :yesnod:
How about my A bodies?
