Two things need to be done
First thing, I have some scrapes that go down past the paint on the passenger side door. They have green in them. I don't know what I hit (or hit me), but this will require a bit of work to fix. The problem is that I have no idea who to bring it to. What body shops in the DC area can/ will fix the scrapes?
Second thing, I have recently noticed that my wide rear tires look much wider on the driver's side than the passgenger side. The tire is nearly flush with passenger side, whereas it sticks out an inch (or a bit more) on the driver's side. What kind of shop fixes this sort of thing? Would this mean that my whole drive train is off a bit? Does this mean that my dif has moved itself 1/2 inch to the left, or would this just be a suspension/alignment/something else problem?
I'm at a loss, I'm thinking about going to a dealership but I have not heard many good things about the Pohanka... Any ideas or plans would be nice. I just love driving around so much that I don't want to give my 'vette to someone to fix it, although in the back of my mind, I keep thinking I'm making this worse by not getting it fixed now. :banghead:
I had my 'vette at a mechanic recently and he said he wasn't sure who to recommend for that kind of work. I may call him back and see if he has anyone who can recommend a body shop.
Thanks to anyone brave enough to respond!
Mike
First, if you were in Charlotte, NC, I know three places to go for the scratch fix and two of the places are run by members of our club. You will have to give up your Vette for a while for this fix as it sounds like a little painting will be involved to do it right.
Second, this seems to be a common situation as the rear ends are put on at the factory with a large window of variance that is acceptable to them. I haven't heard of many guys trying to reinstall the rear end suspension as that is a heffty job. Most would say--live with it as it doesn't affect your Vettes handling. Many threads on this in the Tech section.
Third, picking a body shop is a tuff one. Get with some Vette clubs up there and listen to them. Go to a nearby car show and ask around.
Finally, I don't think you'll find a better place to go than right here on the forum to ask your questions about Vettes. Hint, be careful how you ask questions, or at least how you start them off.
