For those that are attending the NCCC autocross at Sanford NC over the Labor Day Weekend, or any other autocross, the following are some of the items that will be checked at tech. I would suggest everyone take some time and check these before you come to the event.

Wheel bearing, front and rear wheel bearing will be check for looseness.

Seat belts, if you have aftermarket seat belts/harness, they will be check for age and fraying.

Lug nuts, all lug nuts will be checked @ 90 Ft Lbs.

Brake master cylinder fluid level.

Fire Extinguisher in Group II and III/RP

Helmet, must be Snell 95 or newer, a 'M' rated helmet is not acceptable.

No loose 'stuff' inside car.

Battery must be secure.

Hood MUST open without great effort.

For what it's worth, I had my '89 on the lift on Friday, did the brakes, installed my trans beam plates, new Hoosier tires, took the car around the block to terroize the neighbors and heard a noise out of the left rear, back home, back on the lift, both rear wheel beariing are shot, left hand very loose, right hand kinda loose, so I get to install a new set before the Sanford event, not that I don't have anything else to do.

Thanks Mike for the heads up on the inspection. What is the proper test for wheel bearings, just movement in and out?

 

My left rear had almost 1/2 inch of play with the car of the rack and the tire installed, grap the tire at the top and bottom and push and pull, you shouldn't very much travel, when you are checking make sure the half shaft is not moving also. This measurement/movement was at the top and bottom of the tire.

My R/H side was abouy 1/4 inch.

Plus a lot of noise.

By the way, these were good and passed tech at the last Greenville event and at the NCCC Convention.
