I am down here helping my grandfather trying to get his life back into order. I need to know the number for a good General Contractor. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. I am only 20 so i really do not know the first thing about doing post hurricane clean up. We already got the insurance adjuster to the house. The yard is mostly cleaned up. So right now we need a general contractor to repair the roof (replace), put up new ceiling in the Livingroom/Dining Room, new car port, new shed, new lanai....the list goes on and on. Anyone got advice and recommendations for someone down here? Thanks all
I'd ask the Better Business Bureau in that area. Especially before you sign any contracts. There may be a few contractors down there looking to scam a little. Protect yourself. Also, try the yellow pages as they usually are okay. Nice to see you taking care of your family members.

Beware of the "storm chasers"! They make a great living going from disaster to disaster and generally, not always, creATE THEIR OWN DISASTER
Talk to your insurance adjuster, generally they will have a list of recommended contractors and often they will warranty the repairs!
Yellow Pages is a good idea. At least that way you have a local company who will be there after the work is done. A local company will back up their work, even if they are using some less experienced people because the workload is so high right now. Insurance company should also be able to recommend contractors. My biggest concern would be that they would outsource the work because there is so much to do.
Try PMing member JWG. He left this post in the DCTC sticky in OT.
As a result of Hurricane Charlie we were without electric until yesterday. I am just catching up on what has happened to Dan and his family. We went thru the same thing with Hurricane Andrew. I know first hand what they are going thru. (You know the saying, been there done that) I am in Punta Gorda at least twice a week and want to help. I run the field operations for a major commercial general contractor. We are doing work in Charlotte County. I would be glad to guide him thru the rebuilding process should he decide to do so. During the past week our company has done volunteer work in that area and helped some families. I wish I had known about Dan at that time. Gene IM me and let me know how I can help, I could go by Dan’s house and evaluate the damages and possibly get him moving in the right direction. I think it is great how many people in the Corvette forum have reached out to help.
YAY! We got back power last night. Its such a PITA to get anyone to call you back. We are on several people lists. So now we wait. and keep on calling.
