The "flats" on Old Oxford hwy North of Durham are good for a short duration blast. It's about 1.5 mi of flat straight road through the forest with no side streets. If you keep going you get some nice twisties followed by a sharp S curve exiting into a 1/2 mi straight and a long right sweeper. Lots of fun at night but look out for deer.
It's a little ways away, but you know they are builting a new HWY 64 from Raliegh to the Beach...open to williamston now. They don't open a section untill it reachs the next major exit, so if you go between the cones there are miles and miles of open, newly built, unpatroled road.
I think that area of 64 is where they rung out the new NCSHP Camaro SS's. Beware!

I guess they were able to find money to buy lights for them then...
I've never seen anyone out there tough. One could drive down the strech at normal speed to spec the area out and then race back. I have a cop friend with an LS1 Z28...I may try to talk him into going out there with me...they would never give others tickets.

Dude! Let me know if your buddy will take us out there. Now THAT would just be too cool!
I'm just a bit nervous even at the limit. I mean the road is offically closed, right? I'm sure that if they caught a Z06 on a closed road, I'd be nailed.
I just thought of something... When I get my pilot's license later this year, I can fly over roads and scope them out ahead of time! Take a CB radio for communication and we're good to go!
I spoke with a former Serrif deputy for Martin County...were this part of 64 is...today. He does not think you can get traffic violations for driving on that stretch, since it is not a highway yet. So no speeding tickets. You can possibly get a organized racing sitation or tresspassing. Organized racing can lead to seized cars...so if anyone wants to run here...we cannot race together.
