Default Buttonwillow - December 17th

The event offers full instruction for those that want it. Instructors will take you through a short ground school session focusing on safety & performance driving techniques. In the controlled environment of the track, without the distraction of opposing traffic, practice: Controlled stopping and cornering techniques, Skid recovery, Skid pad exercises (for those interested) emphasizing car control and braking skills. When you are not driving on the track, classroom instruction is provided to you. While on the track instructors will be riding along with you. For beginners it usually starts out with an instructor driving a few laps to show you the correct line, then it is your chance to drive with the instructor in your car for as long as you like until you go out on your own. 99% of the instruction is on the track with an average of 2.5 – 3 hours of driving.

For those with experience who just want to get on the track and have fun they can do just that. In the morning the east loop is used for beginners and the west loop for others. After lunch they connect the two for one very large and fun course. Gates open at 8AM. Friends and family welcome to watch.

This sounds like an excellent event. Thanks for posting, Ron. How many cars would you expect in total, and roughly by skill level? Is the afternoon divided into run groups by skill level in the typical fashion?

Event is limited to 65 entries.

In the morning all novices without track experience or those who want to attend will be on the east loop for a morning driving school with instructors.

While they are doing this there is typically 1 or 2 rund groups on the west loop. Last time there were so many novices there was open track all morning on the west loop if I recall correctly!

In the afternoon I think they break it up into 3 groups and then combine the two sides into the big track configuration.

It pretty much open to all. I just know I am bring along 7 Corvette friends that I have confirmed registered.

Would they be ok with a Nextel cup car? I'm pretty sure BW has no particular noise restrictions - what do you think?

EDIT - I see it says street legal only.

Hi Ron:

I am going to try and swing this one, too. I am already committed to go to Streets of Willow with Speedventures on December 9th. I am not certain I can swing the schedule to hit the track again a week later.

For experienced drivers who have not attended this driving clinic in the past, but are attending this event you will need to talk to the head instructor to get a waiver to not have to attend the classroom portion in the morning per Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Just found this out this morning...

Dang. Don't think i can get the suspension and clutch installed by then but we'll see. It'd be fun to meet some vette owners at the track.

Time is running out... I will know if I can attend tomorrow.
If so, I will probably bring my bone stock C6, just to get the hang of it.

Is ButtonWillow OK with that?

The down side is if you snooze you lose and last I heard the event is full with a 20 person waiting list. Alternatively I doubt all 20 people will so up at the gates!

Had a great time. Lots of Vettes and a pair of new Z06's. The pictures are mostly from my group that went up.

A nice little Video too of me!
