Tuesday Hunter, Bilbray and Issac took the Cal Fire Director to the wood shed and as if by magic they can now help. They had the same problem 4 years ago and it was supposed to be fixed.
CDF CAL FIRE has an "attitude"....in otherwords, stay outa my rice bowl....
Hedgecock is ranting about this on AM 600 KOGO.....
This is a good time to break in to thank some individuals....
First of all, many thanks to all those who offered to open their homes to evacuees, and those that did...that was just great and appreciated....
Also would like to thank the gentleman from El centro who offered to tow his trailer up from El Centro to help anyone in need...
Finally, kudo's to the Corvette Forum moderators who let this thread continue like it has for the past few days...this was a great help to the members in all of So Cal to communicate...and it helped keep us off cell phones of which our local authorities requested to keep traffic at a minimum..

Residents of Peutz Valley (south of Alpine)have set up their own road block to prevent looters from entering...
Got to love it...and frees up Sheriff's for on-going evacuations in other areas...
Oh,and some idiot is selling wildfire ashes on E-Bay....$9.50/bag
Road block to prevent looters from entering What do they think hollow point bullets were made for? Frees up the Sheriff's for more important work and frees up our over-flowing courts and jails
Got evacuated at 4:30 A.M. on Monday from south Escondido. Able to legally return at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday. Home is fine but ash is everywhere, including inside the house. My '65 and '02Z06 will need to be serously cleaned. Several houses burned down about 0.5 miles from me. Good friends Paul & Norma Heeter, owners of several Corvettes over the years, lost their home in Rancho Bernardo. I haven't heard if they saved their current '63 and C5.
I spent about 3-4 hours today watching air tankers attack the Harris fire southeast of Alpine...it was a continous assault with planes making several drops, then going for more retardent..in between,CDF firefighters were setting backfires to rob this fire of fuel.....to our surprise, one pass was made by the Martin Mars PBY which carries 7200 gallons of water that covers about 3 acres in one drop...we did not see the drop by this aircraft, but seen it leave....the Harris fire has been a very tough fire in the area east and north of Jamul,Ca for the past three days in Lyons Valley because of the terrain...by 6 pm this evening, all looked good...hopefully,this means by tomorrow the chapter will be pretty much closed on this fire that has plagued east San Diego County since last Sunday...
This pic was taken around 3 pm today:Most activity/air assaults were near center of picture...

We just met last weekend, but want you to know you've been in our thoughts and prayers. Glad to see they finally got a handle on this portion of the nightmare.

Thank you very much...I think the Car Barn In Jamul came thru ok...we pretty much were lucky this time...the Cedar fire in 2003 was within 1/2 mile of our home at one point...my wife had to evacuate by herself...I was out of the country...
We have a run scheduled Nov 3rd..Saturday...if you can make it,we meet in Mission Valley just off Friars Road near Costco/Starbucks just west of Qualcomm at 8:30 am....

That is frightening to hear your wife was alone . . . so glad she made it through. The Cedar Fire was the worst fire, until now.
Thanks so much for the reminder and invite, I will be visiting my parents that weekend. Plan on seeing you all at the Dec run.

Sad was this during the Cedar fire in 2003...there was no...repeat,no news, warnings at all for our area...when she seen flames cresting a ridge nearby, she knew she had to go and was ready..my son came over to help...as they were leaving,a sheriff drove by telling everyone to get out...the avacado grove behind us stopped the fire, and the fire turned south...
This time, info was a little better, but we have learned not to rely on news reports...we use the CHP traffic info page...
We were evacuated since Monday morning (btwn Del Mar and RSF) and I want to specifically thank the Hard Rock Hotel for putting us up for the 4 days until the all clear was announced. Steve Barklis and staff, worked hard to accomodate a number of families in need. We were in a bad way also, because I have been dealing with a serious medical issue and the evac. put us in a real tail spin - anyway, cudos to the HRH and their great staff. They even stored my Vette (safe and sound).

BTW: I was in Brazil fishing...
I know and even with the reverse 911, not everyone was warned. Areas where they lost power, they lost phone service;subsequently, they never got the call. We did much better this time, but there is still room for improvement.
Oh, geez! You never should have told us about the fishing trip - we were imagining something much more noble.
