Default help with header install

im getting a set of used headers locally in socal but its only leaving me with a budget of about 700 left for install and tune and from what I've been reading around on the forums that's only enough for an install and maybe half the cost of a tune. I was thinking that maybe I can just get it nstalled and worry about the tune later. would this be bad for the car though? I wish I could install it myself but I don't have the skill nor the tools to attempt it.

After installling my longtubes, my car threw no codes and was driving smoothly, so I waited a few months before I had the money and had it tuned. The tune only woke up the car more

Default SoCal Smog :-(

Hold it right there...

You C5 guys install long tube headers in California and it passes smog? Ok hey send me an email with details on this or it is just becasue the LS1 works "different"?

If this is the case, I'll install long tubes in mine F-it...

I’ve never heard of CARB approved long tubes. Lots of guys get away with it but it’s not legal. Has nothing to do with tail pipe emissions, just won’t pass the visual inspection. I’ve often thought about cutting off that little CARB tag welded to my JBA shortys and tacking it on to a set of long tubes……..

There are no long tube CARB approved headers, but that didn't stop me from buying mine. Guess my C5 is now an off road application.

Because it is dificult to see down in that area I dont know why somebody has not come up with a set up to hide the tops of the headers with the factory heat shields. The guy that did my car stared at the headers from the top went to a book then stared again for a good 3-4 minits then continued the test did he let it slide? or did he not know any better he also looked under the car and he saw the cats but again more than likely did not know enough to reconise the headers you can see the cats just fine. My car failed because there were no codes in history i had to replace the battery the morning of the test and it cleared all the history codes. also it needed to set some perameters??? Drove it for a week brought it to charlie at RPM and he tuned it for me and it passed it was at the top end of the scale but it passed I have the bullet cats and we were thinking that they are so small that they could not heat soak properly also the car is geared so the 3rd gear test puts the car in a diferent rpm range for the test and maby that had an effect on the overall test. I'd sure like some answers.

Hmm lets see maybe I could
Get away with it if:

1. Paint them black

2. Have two sets. Stock for "it" then unbolt and bolt on the long tubes

You dam people in here always making me invest money

I like your "off road application" definition

Who tunes Vettes in Riverside County????
