Default Fuel Level Sensor Replacement Cost

Hello All,

Looks like I have a faulty fuel level sensor that needs replacing.
Since it is labor intensive and costly, I will have both the right side and left side sensors replaced. Team Chevrolet in in Pasadena quoted $2,700 to do the job. This seems a little steep to me.

Has anyone had this done and if so how much did it cost? (car is out of waranty).

WOW - I'm sure you've tried the quick fixes here first (Techron) ???

Just curious - What brand gas do you regularly use ?

Try running a few bottles of Techron. It sure worked wonders for my fuel sensors.

Yep, gone through two bottles of Techron. I also use Chevron gas exclusivley. I replaced the gas cap as well. Gas gauge still drops to zero and the check engine light came on again this morning.

Jim - I would call several dealerships before I spend $2700 for the repair. Try giving Lake Chevrolet in Lake Elsinore a call or some local Corvette Performance Shops - RPM Motors (Santa Clarita), CMS (Lake Elsinore), A&A Corvette (Oxnard) for estimates. Good luck!

Please let us know what you find out and make sure they actually "troubleshoot" your problem before just changing parts un-necessarily. If they say its the sending unit in the tank then ask them how they know this - They should be able to tell you how they troubleshooted the prob. (readings on volt/ohm meter and where they got the readings, ect. ect. ect)

This is one of my worst fears - second is the Oil Pressure Sender - Have you had problems with that yet.

I guess I'm worried because I have only had my Vette with 24k miles for only 2 months now (it's a 99).

So keep us up to date.

Thanks Sax. I have not experienced any oil pressure sending unit problems yet. I will keep you posted on this problem though.

I also wanted to add that since this problem started I'm also getting the service fuel system message on the DIC. The dealer in Pasadena pulled the code which pointed to the sensor on the right side.
