Cunningham Motorsports cars love Willow Springs.
Well, 2 weekends ago the CMS street car took the overall win at the Speed Ventures Corvette Challenge at WSIR.
This weekend another Cunningham Motorsports tuned car has done good at Big Willow.
T1 National Win.
STO National Win.
New SCCA T1 Willow Springs Track Record.
The car was at CMS all last week getting some much needed love.
They pulled the transmission and had it rebuilt in-house using all upgraded parts. Steel shift forks, brass pads, sliders, etc. Ryne also replaced the clutch and diff seals while everything was out.
I had a DRM oil cooler adapter delivered and installed also, but the big reason it was there was the headers. CMS installed full LG headers and then Ryne got it on the dyno.
The base line read was 351 hp. After Ryne got finished with it, it was at 374hp with a HUGE 390tq. AND it is dialed in at a very safe 12.4 AFR above 4500 RPM.
My car is a 2001, so it has the handicapped cam and valves. I will be taking it back in to CMS for some upgrades very soon and we should gain 15 or so more ponies.
Ryne and Mike rushed to get the car out the door late friday afternoon, all buttoned up and ready for the race.
At the track the car pulled noticeably harder down low. That is something that can get neglected when some tuners just look for peak HP dyno numbers.
Transmission was like butter. Ran flawlessly all weekend. I never missed a shift. I haven't been able to say that in over a year.
Anyway, we had 5 T1 entries, which is one of our largest fields so far. (Next Nats should see as many as 8 cars)
We all qualified on old tires, so i ended up 4th on grid.
Car pulled immediately on the start and i was even able to keep up with all of the '02 and up cars who have those few extra horses.
We fought our way to the front, lost the lead, got it back... and finally crossed the finish line first. Even set a new track record in the process.
Car ran cool, didn't even notice the trans/clutch (which is a good thing), tune was solid and never blinked during both 35 minute races. (We ran STO also)
Big thanks to Ryne and Mike at CMS.
If you need a tranny rebuilt, track your car seriously, want a zillion HP street car, or even simply day to day stuff... make the drive to CMS... you'll be very pleased.

I saw your car on the lift when I was there during the week. I could see it was getting some driveline work done.
Can't say I'm surprised how it ran after Mike & Ryne were through with it.....

Ryan and I had a great duke out. I got the lap record (1:27.359) and held it for an entire 0.4 seconds or so. Then I regretably tapped and spun a Spec Miata as he entered Turn 5 (lap 10) and Ryan went by. Clearly Ryan felt bad about taking advantage and spun in Turn 3 on lap 14 (I think), with me close behind, giving me a 13 or so second lead. Apparently I felt bad about taking advantage of my friend's misfortune and spun on the exit of Turn 1 with a 13+ second lead, losing about 13 seconds in the process. Doh! Ryan soon passed me for the lead. He did a great job in traffic, particularly on the last lap, and victory was his.
So, I beat Scotty White's lap record. All Ryan did was beat the lap record held by some guy named Steve Schmidt.
I took second in STO as well. That race was more processional as we had to weave our way through several cars. Also, it was pretty cool to be on track with the wickedly fast GT-1 cars which lapped us. I think Mike Lewis set a new track record for GT-1 in the 1:18s (!!!), was it?
Congratulations, Ryan on a great weekend!
